UK ATHLETICS PARTNER WITH WATER IN A BOX FOR 2022 AND 2023 UK MAJOR EVENTS

UK Athletics can announce Water In A Box as our Official Water Partner, supporting a number of our UK major events series in 2022 and 2023.

Through the partnership, Water In A Box will provide water in responsible packaging for athletes, officials and event staff across our major event series in the UK, including the Müller Diamond League Birmingham (21 May) and the Müller UK Athletics Championships (24-26 June) this summer.

In securing this partnership, UK Athletics are committed to working with stakeholders to find sustainable solutions for our events as we recognise that we have a responsibility to limit our use of plastics and use responsible packaging which is 100% recyclable.

Water In A Box’s ambition is to produce a great tasting British water utilising the world’s most sustainable packaging, made solely of responsibly-sourced, renewable or recycled materials, which is fully recyclable and carbon-neutral. Through the partnership, all water provided in the stadium will be in cardboard packaging rather than plastic bottles.

Cherry Alexander, Strategic Lead for Major Events at UK Athletics, said, “This is another step to making our events as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible. UK Athletics and the international federations are all exploring ways to improve sustainability, and this partnership symbolises a commitment to this through the event solution. We are really pleased to be partnering with Water In A Box and look forward to working with them in 2022 and 2023.”

Commercial Director of Water in a Box, Karl Martin, said, ““It is a very exciting moment for Water in a Box to be collaborating with such a huge sporting organisation at iconic events like the Müller Diamond League Birmingham and the Müller UK Athletics Championships.

“In an ideal world, we would all have a reusable water bottle but often at sporting events that’s not always possible. We started Water in a Box to offer a better alternative to plastic bottles. It isn’t perfect, but our cartons have the lowest carbon footprint of all drinks containers and are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.”
