UK ATHLETICS PUBLISHES NEW GUIDANCE ON SRY TESTING

UK Athletics (UKA) has released a new guidance sheet to help athletes understand the requirements around SRY gene testing, now needed for female athletes competing in certain international events following the introduction of World Athletics Rule C3.3A/C3.5A on 1 September 2025.

Athletes aiming for world senior or U20 championships, Diamond League meetings or the Marathon Majors will need to hold a valid SRY test certificate. As the test is only required once, athletes are advised to complete it early and keep their certificate safe for future use, including uploading it to World Athletics when requested.

UKA cannot store certificates on behalf of athletes, and those training overseas must arrange testing with a suitable laboratory in their country of residence. This rule does not currently apply to para athletes.

UKA encourages any athlete with international ambitions to complete the process as soon as possible to avoid delays around selection.
