UK Athletics has today announced a staff restructure at the governing body, with a consultation process commencing with immediate effect.

The restructure, as well as reflecting the financial direction communicated by Chair Ian Beattie before Christmas, is one of a range of measure to help stabilise the Governing Body’s financial position.

The restructure will see a reduction in the organisation’s staff headcount following the conclusion of the consultation process on 28th April but will not reduce the number of performance roles which are supported through the UK Sport investment.

UKA CEO Jack Buckner said:

“This is a challenging day for UKA, but it is the reality of where we are, and it is right that we take these difficult decisions to ensure the ongoing delivery of the sport.

“Having seen the efforts that have been put in by our Chair Ian Beattie and Interim CEO Mark Munro prior to my arrival, and the work undertaken since, I know that no stone has been left unturned to try to avoid reaching this point. This is the culmination of a number of financial challenges facing the organisation, exacerbated by the pandemic, and can be seen replicated across the sports sector.

“It is essential that the sport has a healthy governing body, with a long-term strategy focussing on performance, governance and the event and commercial area, and today marks some difficult but important steps towards that recovery.”
