UKA APPOINT WORLD CLASS PROGRAMME HEAD OF FIELD AND COMBINED EVENTS

UK Athletics has confirmed that Scott Simpson has been appointed to the role of Head of Field and Combined Events for the World Class Programme (WCP).

Simpson’s appointment completes the roster of event area leadership in the WCP overseen directly by Technical Director Stephen Maguire. Steve Vernon (Endurance), Darren Campbell (Sprints, Hurdles and relay), and Tom Paulson (Para) holding the equivalent roles in their respective areas.

As WCP Head of Field and Combined Events, Scott Simpson’s role is to develop, lead and manage the WCP Field and Combined plan in line with the WCP Strategy, ensure it is aligned it to the Futures programme, and to provide support of field and combined events WCP athletes and their coaches.

With the focus and remit of the WCP to ensure medal success in the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics, it has been agreed that Scott will continue to work in a coaching capacity with Holly Bradshaw. Whilst the WCP Lead roles are not coaching positions, it is recognised that the potential disruption to Bradshaw’s preparation would be counter-productive to the aim of achieving medal winning performances.

UKA Technical Director Stephen Maguire said:

“I am pleased to confirm Scott’s appointment to this important role. He has shown over the years his ability to work effectively with athletes and coaches within the pole vault and wider jumps area and is widely respected.

“It’s great that he will now bring that level of collaboration and focus to the field and combined events athletes on the World Class Programme.”
