Uka Disability Confident Leader Update

18 June 2018

UK Athletics continues to deliver against its commitment as a Disability Confident Leader with two members of staff attending a St Andrew’s Healthcare Inclusion event earlier this month.

Jane Fylan, Deputy Compliance Manager and Donna Fraser, Equality, Diversity & Engagement Lead attended a St Andrew’s Healthcare Inclusion event on Monday 11 June to talk about what the sport is doing to address mental health and the role physical activity plays in mental wellbeing.

Jane shared information about the Duty of Care requirements and the England Athletics #RunandTalk initiative, while Donna spoke about the Chat & a Cuppa sessions and the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) available for staff.

Business Partner, Diversity & Inclusion, Serita Bonsignore, said: “It was a pleasure meeting with Donna and Jane and being able to share their findings on physical activity and its positive impact on mental health – a philosophy we encourage among our own patients. Meeting with Olympians and athletes was a first for our patients and staff, which they appreciated, and we look forward to developing our partnership going forward.”

St Andrew’s Healthcare provides specialist mental healthcare for people with challenging mental health needs.  They provide care across a number of services, including Men’s Mental Health, Women’s Mental Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Neuropsychiatry, Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Learning Disability.
