Vote For European Athlete Of The Month For March

03 April 2012

The March calendar included the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, the 12th European Cup Winter Throwing in the Montenegrin town of Bar and the first two of the 2012 European Athletics Race Walking Permit Meetings.

This month’s European Athlete of the Month nominations naturally feature athletes who impressed at those events.

UKA is pleased to announce that Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Yamile Aldama and Tiffany Porter are included in the12 female nominations for the European Athlete of the Month Award for March, organised by European Athletics.

19-year-old Johnson-Thompson, the 2009 World Youth Championships heptathlon gold medallist, put together a pentathlon tally of 4526 points, just nine points short of Carolina Klüft’s world junior indoor record, in Cardiff on 24 March.

Porter was the first European home in the 60m hurdles at the World Indoor Championships when she won a silver medal and Yamile Aldam also won the triple jump with a 2012 European-leading mark of 14.82m in Istanbul.

The voting will close on 17 April at noon CET.

The European Athlete of the Month initiative was launched in January 2007 and is designed to recognise outstanding performers at all levels of the sport in Europe.
