Jessica Ennis has been nominated for the coveted BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award following two inspiring gold medal performances during the 2010 season.

In a year which saw the most celebrated European Championships outing ever by a British team and two successful Samsung Diamond League meetings, hosted at Aviva Series events in the UK, athletics was truly brought into the hearts and minds of the British public this year with Ennis at the forefront.

UKA is proud to get behind Jessica, celebrate her incredible year and support her nomination for 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Vote by phone during the live show on 19 December at 19:00 on BBC 1.

Jessica Ennis – credentials

Ennis has a reputation as being an athlete who can peak perfectly for the major championships and she did just that in 2010 winning pentathlon and heptathlon titles at the World Indoors and European Championships respectively.

Her success this year further cemented her as the golden girl of British athletics as she followed up her outstanding World Championships outdoor title performance from 2009.

But life didn’t always go to plan for the Yorkshire born athlete, in 2008 the heptathlete suffered injury in the lead up to the 2008 Olympic Games and was forced to shelve her Olympic dream. However, Ennis was back on the track for the following indoor season and went from strength to strength that year (2009), concluding with a gold medal at the World Championships.
