Warner To Serve Athletics Through To 2018

21 February 2012

Ed Warner, UKA Chairman, was today confirmed to continue in that role through to January 2018. The UK Members Council, an elected body that protects the interests of the sport, voted unanimously that they wanted to see Warner lead UKA through to the IAAF World Championships in London.

Warner was originally appointed to the post in 2007, when the position of Chairman was introduced, and he has since led the sport through a transformation that culminated in the successful bid to host 2017.

Warner said of his appointment: “I am thrilled that the UK Members Council has extended my term to enable me to really see the job through to a natural culmination post World Championships. I would like to thank them for the belief they have placed in me on behalf of our sport and I will continue to put the best interests of athletics at the heart of everything we do.”

UKA President, Lynn Davies, who heads up the UK Members Council added: “Ed has done a tremendous job for athletics over the last five years and every member of the Council believes that he is the right man to take us through this important year and beyond.

“He has worked tirelessly with Niels de Vos and the UKA team to modernise the sport and drive it forward and we are in a much better place going into a home Games for that. We want to see the same leadership and energy as we move towards London 2017 World Athletics Championships and Ed is the man to deliver that.
