Slobodna Dalmacija, Split, CRO 21 February

Vikki Hubbard (Birchfield) cleared a life-time best of 1.92m for fourth place behind the winning leap of 2.03m by home-town girl Blanca Vlasic. This represented a three centimetre improvement on her previous best and moves her to eighth on the UK All-time lists. The mark is also the qualifying standard for the World Indoor Championships in Doha.

Celtic International & U16 Schools International, Cardiff 21 February

Highlights from the meeting included Nick Smith (Shaftesbury Barnet) winning the 60m in 6.79. Mark English (Letterkenny U17) 1:50.67 in the 800m. John McDonnell (Luton U20) 3:51.29 in the 1500m. In the high jump Samuel Elliott-Bailey (Chelmsford U20) 2.04m. Ross Maxwell (East Kilbride U15) 6.20m in the long jump. Robert Mohan (Nene Valley U20) 17.14m pb in the shot. In the women’s events Ailis McSweeney (Leevale) clocked 7.48 in the 60m while Twinelle Hopeson (Croydon U20) recorded 7.60 in her race. In the 400m Joe Patterson (Ballymena & Antrim) and Emma Pullen (Shrewsbury) both clocked 55.22 while Amy Allcock (Aldershot, Farnham & District U20) recorded 57.40. In the 800m Seonaid Murray (Liverpool) 2:10.50 in her race while Rowena Cole (Coventry U20) finished first in her race in 2:09.44. In the high jump Nikki Manson (Giffnock North U17) cleared 1.67m. In the long jump Jade Nimmo (Falkirk U20) leapt to 6.20m while Lorraine Ugen (Blackheath & Bromley U20) recorded 6.02m. In the triple jump Sarah Warnock (Edinburgh U20) recorded 11.94 and Emma Pringle (Gateshead U20) 11.80m. In the shot Tesni Ward (Shefffield U20) recorded 14.00m.

Midland Counties Open, Birmingham 21 February

Highlights from the meeting included Dale Garland (Channel Islands) clocking 46.95 in winning the 400m with Luke Lennon-Ford (Birchfield) 47.64 pb. Darren Scott (Trafford) set a British M40 record with his 49.35 clocking. Dawn Hunt (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow) 54.80 and Laura Langowski (Coventry Godiva) 54.83 in the women’s 400m. Bernice Wilson (Birchfield) won the 60m in 7.37 while Joshua Swaray (Hillingdon) won the men’s in a pb of 6.83. Georgia Bell (Ealing, Southall & Middlesex U20) clocked 2:13.57 in the 800m. Lucy Bryan (Bristol & West U17) and Hannah Grubb (Bath) both cleared 3.50m in the pole vault.

Ome 30km Road Race, Tokyo, JPN 21 February

Mara Yamauchi (Harrow) continued her return from injury with victory in the rarely run distance of 30km clocking 1:43.24 winning by 25 seconds from Hiromi Ominami.

Internationales Springer Meeting, Dessau, Germany 20 February

Steve Lewis (Newham & Essex Beagles) cleared a season’s best of 5.65m in the pole vault, which eclipsed his previous season’s best by two centimetres, finishing second to former world champion Giuseppe Gibilesco (Italy), who cleared 5.70m for the win.

America East Indoor Track & Field Championships, Boston (U) MA, USA 20 February

The day after her victory in the 5000m, Sara Parkinson (Chorley) finished in third place in round two of the 3000m in a life-time best of 9:53.32 and also finished in fourth place in the mile in a time of 4:55.21 which was just 3/100ths outside her pb set last year. Alex Felce (Cheltenham) also finished in fourth place in the mile recording a time of 4:09.35.

Big East Indoor Championships, New York NY, USA 20 February

Toby Ulm (Swindon) finished in second place over he rarely run distance of 500m in a time of 62.54.

French Indoor Championships, Bordeaux, FRA 20 February

Jamie Bowie (Inverness U23) finished in second place in a time of 48.74.

Stewarts Scottish National Cross Country Championships, Callendar Park, Falkirk 20 February

The senior men’s 12km race was won by Alastair Hay (Central AC) who repeated his 2009 win in a thrilling sprint finish with Tsegezab Woldemichael (Shettleston) prevailing in the end by five seconds with Derek Hawkins (Kilbarchan) taking the bronze 10 seconds further back. In the senior women’s race Freya Murray (Edinburgh) strode to her fourth title in five years with an easy victory finishing 1 minute 45 seconds ahead of Emma Raven (Central) who was two seconds clear of Rosie Smith (Hunters Bog Trotters). The U20 Men’s race over 8km saw Callum Hawkins (Kilbarchan) take the victory by three seconds from Matthew Gillespie (Shettleston) with Scot McDonald (Central) a further 31 seconds back in the bronze medal position. The U20 Women’s race over 4.8km was one of the closest of the day with Nicola Hood (Victoria Park City of Glasgow) taking the victory by the closest of margins in a sprint to the line with Beth Potter (Victoria Park City of Glasgow) with only one second separating them and only one second further back was Sarah Inglis (Lothian) in the bronze medal position. In the U17 Women’s race run in conjunction with the U20’s Rhona Auckland (Banchory Stonehaven) took the gold with Hollie Young (Victoria Park City of Glasgow) runner-up and Halina Rees (Fife) in third. The U17 Men’s race over 6.4km saw Ross Matheson (Lasswade) take the gold medal prevailing over Jack Hamilton (Ron Hill Cambuslang) by a huge margin of 36 seconds with Scott Green (Central) in third, a further seven seconds behind. The U15 Boys race over 4km saw Ahmed Hassan (Shettleston) take a confident victory from Dale Colley (Falkirk Victoria) and Finlay Rae (Ayr Seaforth) who both recorded the same time 13 seconds behind Hassan. In the U15 Girls race over the same distance, Florie McLeish (Preston) scored a resounding victory by 42 seconds from Rachel Dunn (Edinburgh) with Danielle Beattie (Nithsdale) taking the bronze medal a further 20 seconds behind. The U13 Boys race over 3.2km saw Euan Gillham (Kilbarchan) take the gold medal with Robert Bough (Edinburgh) seven seconds adrift and Josh Kerr (Edinburgh) a further three seconds behind in third. The U13 Girls race also over 3.2km saw Kathryn Gillespie (Central) take the gold from Chloe Cowan (Giffnock North) by a margin of four seconds with Eilidh MacCorquodale (Central) a further nine seconds behind in the bronze medal position.

All Comers’ Meet, Melbourne, AUS 18 February

Melanie Purkiss (Team Solent) finished second in round two of the 400m recording 55.77.
