As the IAAF World Championships draw closer top British athletes continue their summer season, fine tuning their techniques and preperation ahead of the major event in Berlin.

 

Golden League, Meeting Areva, Paris

It has been widely speculated that Simeon Williamson (Highgate Harriers) will attempt to break the 10 second barrier at the Golden League meeting in Paris tonight. He lines up against the fastest men in the world including Usain Bolt (JAM), Kim Collins (SKN) and Ivory Williams (USA).

Also competing in the French capital is 110m hurdles national champion Andy Turner (Sale) and Tim Benjamin (Sale) in the 400m.

McCain UKA Combined Events Challenge "Hexham Meeting 2009"

18-19 July 2009

Top decathletes descend on the small north-east venue this weekend at the Tynedale Athletics Park, Hexham.

Decathlete Ed Dunford will be starting this weekend’s event with one thing in mind – 8000 points and a qualification for the IAAF World Championships team, which takes place in Berlin 15-23 August.

Birmingham Games, Alexander Stadium

18-19 July 2009

Kelly Sotherton (Birchfield Harriers) will be just one of the top competitors at the Alexander Stadium this weekend, where she will continue her IAAF World Championships heptathlon preparation. 

The event, which starts at 11am on both days, will also feature Donna Fraser (Croydon) and Vicky Barr (Rugby & Northampton) in the women’s 400m and UK Championships silver medallist Conrad Williams (Kent) in the men’s 400m. Richard Yates (Trafford AC) will double up over in the 400m hurdles and 400m flat.

Zoe Derham (Birchfield Harriers) will feature in the hammer, while Tom Parsons (Birchfield Harriers) returns to high jump competition after finishing third place at the Aviva UK Championships.

BMC, Solihull

19 July 2009

Steph Twell (Aldershot, Farnham & District), Katrina Wootton (Bedford & County) and Vicky Griffiths (Liverpool Harriers) will compete in a highly competitive 800m at this weekend’s BMC at the Norman Green Athletics Centre in Solihull.
