New York Marathon, 3 November 2019

David Weir (Jenny Archer; Weir Archer Academy) worked hard to capture third place behind Daniel Romanchuk and Marcel Hug, coming across the line in 1:37:28, with just four seconds separating the top three.

Weir was made to work in the second half of the race following a stop for technical reasons, but he caught up the leading two, who had moved away considerably, with the help of American, Aaron Pike.

JohnBoy Smith (Archer; Weir Archer Academy) was sixth in 1:40:01 while compatriot Simon Lawson (Ian Thompson; Carlisle Tri) was ninth in 1:40:06.

In the women’s wheelchair race, Shelly Woods (Peter Wyman; Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde) was eighth in 2:04:44.

English Cross Country Relays, Berry Hill, Mansfield, 2 November 2019

Leeds City AC won the men’s title following a fine display by the team’s quartet of Phil Sesemann (Andrew Henderson), Matthew Grieve (Henderson), Graham Rush (Dave Newport), Emile Cairess (Philip Townsend). The team crossed the line in 1:05:14 with some of the fastest times over the course, Rush and Cairess the quickest on the third and fourth laps in 16:22 and 16:01 respectively.

Wreake and Soar Valley’s Sam Stabler (Rob Denmark) produced the fastest lap of the day in the senior men’s contest, recording a time of 15:52.85.

Aldershot, Farnham & District claimed the senior women’s title following an impressive display from the trio of Emily Hosker-Thornhill, Niamh Brown (both Mick Woods) and Lauren Hall (Tim Eglen)

Hosker-Thornhill ran the fastest leg of the day by far, her 9:52.60 clocking the only time under 10 minutes on the day.

Shaftesbury Barnet were victorious in the junior men’s contest while Wolverhampton & Bilston were triumphant in the junior women’s race.
