Saucony English Cross Country Relays, Berry Hill Park, Mansfield – Saturday 1 November

Senior Men

Stockport Harriers ‘A’ produced a commanding display to take the title at Berry Hill Park. The team composed of Alexander O’Gorman, Jack Morris, Patrick Martin and Jack Martin (coach: all David Turnball) led the race from the second leg onwards and never looked back. Their combined time of 1:01.10.55 was enough to beat Morpeth Harriers into second place and Highgate Harriers into third.

Andrew Heyes (Keith Whitelam), racing for Hallamshire Harriers, continued his fine winter form as he ran the fastest leg of the day around the 5km route recording a time of 14:51.75 on the first leg.

Senior Women

Aldershot Farnham & District ‘A’ regained the senior women’s title with Lily Partridge (Mick Woods) running the fastest leg of the day with a time of 9:31.75. Georgie Bruinvels (Woods) maintained the lead on the second leg and handed over to the European and Commonwealth 5000m finalist Emelia Gorecka (Woods) to anchor the team to the title in an overall time of 29:46.50.

Birchfield Harriers finished in second with Sara Treacy (Bud Baldaro) running the second fastest time of the day of 9:35.60 in the senior women’s competition, and City of Stoke took the bronze medal.

Junior Men

The junior men’s competition was won by Tonbridge ‘A’ after a battle with Trafford AC. Shaftesbury Barnet AC finished in third after a stunning final leg from Michael Callegari (Nadeem Shaikh) who promoted the team from eleventh to third on the final 3km lap. Jonathan Davies (Rob McKim) ran the fastest 3km leg of the day for Reading AC in 8:36.50.

Junior Women

Aldershot Farnham & District won the junior women’s competition after a dominant display. However, European and Commonwealth 800m finalist Jess Judd (Rob Denmark) produced a fine performance in Mansfield with the quickest junior women’s time of the day in 8:11.50.

U17 Men

Another notable performance came in the U17 boy’s competition from Ben Dijkstra. The Youth Olympic triathlete produced an extraordinary performance on the second leg as he took his team from fifty-seventh after the first leg to eighth going into the third and final leg. The Leicester Corinthians athlete was the quickest on the day in the age group with a time of 8:54.95. Aldershot Farnham & District won the U17 title.

U17 Women

Harriet Knowles-Jones (Russell Tart) elevated her Warrington AC team from fifth to the gold medal on the final leg with a time of 8:19.00.

New York Half Marathon, USA, Sunday 2 November

Simon Lawson and Shelly Woods (Jenny Archer) fought against tough weather conditions in New York over the 26.2 miles course as high winds had an impact on all the performances on the day. Lawson was the top Briton as he finished in eleventh place. Shelly Woods was eighth around the streets on New York in the women’s race won by Tatyana McFadden.

Dash to the Finish 5k, New York, USA, Saturday 1 November

Steph Twell and Beth Potter (both Woods) were both in the field for the 5km event in the Big Apple. Twell ran a time of 16:12 to finish an impressive third, with her Scottish teammate Potter recording 16:59 in ninth.

IAU 50km World Trophy Final, Doha, Qatar – Friday 31 October

The hot conditions in Qatar did not deter the British ultra-runners as medals were won in both the men’s and women’s events. Phil Anthony (Peter Mullervy) was second in the men’s race in 3:01.26 narrowly behind the Zimbabwean winner, Collen Makaza. Joasia Zakrzewski also settled for second position in the women’s race behind the American Emily Harrison, in a time of 3:33.23.
