Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash, 16 November 2014
Scottish athletes enjoyed great success on the Yorkshire roads as fifty athletes went under 31 minutes in a 10k road race for the first time in nearly twenty years. With a fast and flat course and some of the best domestic athletes on show, it was an exciting finale to the runbritain Grand Prix.
Andrew Butchart (coach: Derek Easton) continued his fine winter form as he prepares for the British Athletics Cross Challenge in Liverpool in two weeks’ time with victory in Leeds. He recorded a new lifetime best of 29:17 to win the race for Scotland. He was closely followed by his compatriot Callum Hawkins (Robert Hawkins) and Phil Hurst (Martin Crowe) who recorded new lifetime bests of 29:21 and 29:22 respectively.
Steph Twell (Mick Woods) returned to her best form in Leeds to record a new personal best of 32:28 to make it a double Scottish victory. Steeplechaser Eilish McColgan (Liz McColgan Nuttall) competed in her first ever 10k road race and she did not disappoint with a second place finish in 33:02. She narrowly edged Rhona Auckland (Joyce Hogg) into third as the twenty-one year old took over a minute off her personal best to finish in 33:03.
In the wheelchair races, there were victories for Jade Jones (Ian Thompson/Tanni Grey-Thompson) in the women’s race and Callum Hall in the men’s race.
Cross International Atapuerca, Burgos, Spain, 16 November 2014
In this early season cross country international in Spain, an England team performed well against incredibly strong fields, containing a whole host of the world’s best runners. The day got off to the perfect start as Lydia Turner () secured a commanding victory to lead an English 1-2-3-4, with Harriet Knowles-Jones (Russell Tart), Jenny Nesbit (David Walker) and Tessa McCormick (Andy Carter) in support.
Next up were the junior men, with Charlie Joslin-Allen (Mark Hookway) the leading Brit in seventh place.
In the senior women’s race, Lily Partridge (Woods) ran a brave race going with the African’s and finishing ninth. Her teammates Maryse Haynes (Bud Baldaro), Jane Potter and Sarah Astin (Woods) were sixteenth, seventeenth and twenty third respectively.
Last but not least were the senior men, led home by Jonathan Taylor (Gordon Surtees), Adam Hickey (Eamonn Martin) and Jonny Hay (Woods) in twenty first, second and third, with Richard Goodman (Woods) a handful of places further back.

South Yorkshire Cross Country, Campsall, Doncaster, 16 November 2014
European and Commonwealth 1500m medallist Laura Weightman (Steve Cram) returned to cross country running and won at the South Yorkshire Cross Country in Doncaster. She beat 2013 World Mountain running silver medallist Emma Clayton (Andrew Henderson) into second and Georgia Malir (Henderson) into third in her first race since September.
Andrew Heyes (Keith Whitelam) maintained his impressive cross country form with a commanding victory in the men’s race. His time of 29:51 made him a dominant victor ahead of the rest of the field.

London Youth Games, Parliament Hill, London, 15 November 2014
The first cross country race of the London Youth Games took place at Parliament Hill on Sunday.
After winning the U13 and U15 titles over the last three years at the event, Sabrina Sinha (Mark Newell) maintained her strong record with victory in the U17 women’s race.
NCAA Division 1 South East Regional Cross Country Championships, Kentucky, 11 November
Iona Lake (Tim/Pauline Ash) ran arguably the best race of her collegiate career to date to finish third, leading her University of Virginia team to a second place finish. This has secured them an automatic spot at the National Championships on Saturday 22 November.
NCAA Division 1 South Region Cross Country Championships, Florida, 11 November
Welsh woman Rhianwedd Price showed a real step up in class to bag third and qualify as an individual for the National Championships. Similar to her former Birmingham University teammate Lake, Pippa Woolven (Janet Nash) also ran a great race to finish fifth, and her team Florida State will also be at the ‘big dance’ next weekend.
In the men’s race, Jack Goodwin (Simon Goodwin) was sixth helping the Florida State Seminoles to a second place finish as in the women’s race, meaning they’ll also be in Terre Haute next weekend. His teammate and European Junior Steeplechase champion Zak Seddon (Jeff Seddon) was fifteenth, with Marcus Bridger-Wilkinson (Karen Yewer) and Robbie Farnham-Rose (Hookway) also securing top twenty finishes.
NCAA Division 1 South Central Region Cross Country Championships, Arkansas, 11 November
The British men were in good form in Fayetteville, with Sam Stabler (Darren Gauson) finish third and Alex George (Paul de-Camps) sixth, with both men advancing to Nationals by virtue of individual and team qualification respectively.
NCAA Division 1 North East Region Cross Country Championships, New York, 11 November
On their home course, Iona dominated proceedings in the women’s race, with Kate Avery (Tony Simmons) and Rosie Clarke (Tom Watson) delivering an impressive 1-2 to guide their team to victory.
In the men’s race, the top 20 had a heavy British & Irish weighting, with Ben Connor third for Providence and Kieran Clements (Ricardo Santos) twelfth.
NCAA Division 1 Mountain Region Cross Country Championships, New Mexico, 11 November
Also running at home, Charlotte Arter (James Thie) and Calli Thackery (Aaron Thomas) finished third and tenth respectively to ensure the New Mexico women will be at Nationals next weekend. Despite only finishing seventh on the day, the New Mexico men, who contain a strong British contingent, also qualified.
NCAA Division 1 Mid-West Region Cross Country Championships, Illinois, 11 November
Marc Scott (Steve Gulley) was the pick of the bunch in Peoria, finishing second, the same position as his Tulsa team meaning they progress to Terre Haute.
