NCAA Cross Country Championships, Terre Haute, USA – Saturday 22 November

Kate Avery (coach: Tony Simmons) became the first Briton since 1989 to win an NCAA Cross Country title with a commanding victory in Terre Haute. The Iona College athlete was billed as one of the favourites prior to the race and she did not disappoint as she took the victory in a time of 19:31.60.

There were five British women in the top 30 in Terre Haute including Alice Wright (David Walker) who was the next highest finisher in 20th position for New Mexico.

Marc Scott (Steve Gulley) was the highest placed Briton in the men’s race with a strong run to finish in 14th. Ben Connor was the second British athlete home for Providence College in 30th position.

IAU World 100km Championships, Doha – Friday 21 November

Ellie Greenwood was crowned World 100km champion on Friday with a stunning victory in the women’s race in Doha. Her time of 7:30.48 puts her third on the UK all-time list and was eight minutes clear of her closest rival as she dominated the race. Britons Joanna Zakrzewski and Jo Meek were third and fourth which guided the Great Britain & Northern Ireland to the women’s team gold medal.

Paul Giblin was the first British athlete to finish the 100km course in 6:56.12 with Steve Way a further minute behind in 13th position. Max King of America won the race in Doha to take the world title. Craig Holgate was the third and final counter for the British team who claimed the bronze medal in the men’s team competition.

British & Irish Masters Cross Country Championships, Wollaton Park, Nottingham – Saturday 22 November

In one of the closest races in the men’s age group races on the day, Ben Reynolds led home an England 1-2-3 in the men’s 50-54 age group. He finished four seconds ahead of Guy Bracken and fifteen seconds ahead of his teammate Paul Butcher, in Nottingham.

In the women’s 50-54 age group race there was a close finish between Clare Elms representing England and Fiona Matheson of Scotland. Elms triumphed by five seconds in a tense finish as she led her England team to the overall age group team gold medal.

Jean Bouin Cross Country & 10k, Barcelona, Spain – Sunday 23 November

Scott Overall (Alan Storey) was seventh at the Jean Boiun cross country race in Barcelona.

The Aldershot Farnham & District athlete Jessica Andrews (Mick Woods) competed in the road 10k and finished in 25th position recording a time of 34:17.

Conwy Half Marathon, Wales – Sunday 23 November 2014

There was a thrilling finish to the Conwy Half Marathon as the top two were separated by just two seconds after covering 13.1 miles. Mohammed Abu-Razeq (Norman Poole) came out on top over Yared Hagos after a sprint finish over the bridge to Conwy castle. Abu-Razeq won in a time of 67:16 with Hagos recording 67:18 in Wales.

Kim Fawke-Williams won the women’s race in a season best of 77:51 with Alison Lavender (Andrew Walling) the second lady to finish.

Scottish Athletics Athlete of the Year Awards – Saturday 22 November

The awards dinner for the Scottish Athlete of the Year awards was held on Saturday night to celebrate Scotland’s athletes and clubs performances over the year. Eilidh Child (Malcom Arnold) won the Scottish Athlete of the Year award beating tough opposition such as Lynsey Sharp (Rana Reider) and Chris O’Hare (Terrance Mahon) to the prize.

Libby Clegg (Keith Antoine) won the Para-Athlete of the Year at the ceremony with Lynsey Sharp taking the Commonwealth Games Athlete of the Year award.
