Daniela Jutzeler Memorial, Switzerland – Thursday 4 June 

Hannah Cockroft (coach: Jenni Banks) was in record-breaking form last week as she improved her world record in the T34 200m to 30.51. The Yorkshire-born athlete cut three-hundredths off her previous best to win the race and show the outstanding form ‘the Hurricane’ is in at the moment. Team mate Mel Nicholls (Job King) was third in the race in 34.99.

Cockroft enjoyed a busy competition, winning the 100m in 17.36 and the 800m in 2:07.62 to maintain her unbeaten record. Coventry’s Nicholls was third in the 800m recording 2:09.33 and sixth in the 100m in 19.91.

Ben Rowlings (King) continued his impressive string of results with a 1:44.16 clocking in the T34 800m to achieve the European record. After numerous British records recently, the double IPC European bronze medallist set three personal bests at the Swiss event, recording 16.18 in the 100m and 28.44 in the 200m.

Emerging talent Toby Gold (Jenny Archer) produced three European records in the T33 100m, 200m and 400m. The 17.61 mark in the 100m, 31.13 in the 200m and 1:02.37 in the 400m placed him second in the races behind Kuwait’s Ahmad Almutairi. Dam Bramall (Rick Hoskins) set life time best marks of 18.32, 33.46 and 1:07.71 respectively in the same events. 

There were many British athletes competing in Switzerland and another race victory came courtesy of Stephen Osborne (Banks) in the T51 400m clocking 1:21.50 to round-up an encouraging day of action for our athletes.

Swiss Open Nationals, Switzerland – 6-7 June

A few days after extending her 200m world record, Hannah Cockroft (Banks) did it again storming to T34 400m victory in 59.42. The Coventry-based athlete appears to be in her best form and continued her unbeaten run as she won the 100m and 800m respectively in 17.53 and 2:05.87.  

Stephen Osborne won the T51 100m in 21.28 to back up his victory on Thursday last week.

European 10,000m Cup, Chia-Pula, Italy – Saturday 6 June

Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s women took team gold at the European 10,000m Cup in Chia-Pula on Saturday, while the men’s team finished fifth.

Strong runs from Lily Partridge and Jess Coulson (both coached by Mick Woods), who came home in third and fourth place respectively in times of 33:02 and 33:03, followed by Jo Pavey (Gavin Pavey) in seventh recording 33:18, ensured the team pipped Spain and Italy to the title. Alyson Dixon (self-coached) finished in 22nd in 34:19.50. 

The men’s trio were fifth in the team standings despite an individual ninth place finish from Dewi Griffiths (Kevin Evans) clocking 29:13. There was also a track PB of 29:32 from Andrew Butchart (Derek Easton) in 12th. Ben Lindsay (Scott Overall) completed the team score with a 30:22 clocking for 18th place.

Athletica Geneva, Saturday 6 June

Conrad Williams (Linford Christie) produced one of the performances of his career as he set a personal best of 45.06 in the 400m this weekend. The 2014 European 4x400m relay gold medallist won the event in Switzerland ahead of Birchfield’s Jarryd Dunn (Keith Holt) who also recorded a lifetime best of 45.22 which coupled as a World Championship qualifying standard. 

There was another World qualifying standard and win in the 400m hurdles for Tom Burton (Nick Dakin) who ran 49.36, his second sub-50 time of the season. Meghan Beesley (Dakin) was second in the women’s equivalent as she continues her comeback from injury last year. She finished ahead of fellow Briton Shona Richards (Marina Armstrong) who went inside the European under 23 qualifying standard recording 57.18.

The 200m offered PBs galore for the British athletes with Leon Reid (James Hillier) clocking 20.62 and Reece Prescod (Jonas Tawiah-Dodoo) 20.70 and both were comfortably inside the European U23 and European Junior qualifying standards respectively.

Jacob Paul (Marina Armstrong) and Jack Houghton (Colin Bovell) both recorded lifetime bests in the 400m hurdles with 50.38 and 50.42 respectively and Kirsten McAslan (Trevor Painter) set an outdoor best of 52.43 in the women’s 400m. 

Allan Smith (Bryan Roy) and Scott Lincoln (Paul Wilson) won the men’s high jump and shot put competitions in Geneva on a busy day of action.

Meeting Pro Athle Tour de Marseille, France – Saturday 6 June

Rabah Yousif Bhkeit (Carol Williams) ran a World Championships qualifying standard in Marseille this weekend with a 45.43 clocking which was also a seasons best. 

Julian Reid (Aston Moore) jumped 8.08m (+2.4) in the long jump which would have been a PB had it not been for the wind. Charlene Thomas (Aaron Thomas) was fourth in the 1500m setting a time of 4:10.33.

Sparkassen Gala, Regensburg, Germany – Saturday 6 June

Daryll Neita (Tawiah-Dodoo) ran her first 100m of the season which wasn’t affected by the wind recording 11.43 in the final to finish in sixth place.

Jamie Bowie (Piotr Haczek) ran 46.38 in the 400m and Ben Waterman (Steve Mann) was second in the 800m in a time of 1:48.19.

Scottish Athletics Throws and Jumps Grand Prix, Livingston – 6-7 June

IPC European F32-51 club throw champion Jo Butterfield (Ian Mirfin/Shona Malcolm) threw 8.74m in the discus and 18.92m club throw in Scotland this weekend. 

Arona Pruebas Combinadas (Combined Events meeting), Arona, Spain – 6-7 June

Sam Talbot (Eldon Lake) achieved the World U18 standard in Arona collecting a total of 6971.
