UKA Weekend Report June 27 2010
All eyes this weekend (athletically at least) were on the great performances from UK athletes at the Aviva European Trials and UK Championships on June 25-27, which also meant there was little action overseas.
Highlights from elsewhere in the calendar included:
European Cup Super League, Tallinn, June 26/27
The Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland team were 6th in the European Cup, Combined Events Super League in Talinn. Grace Clements moved up to third in the POT Heptathlon rankings finishing 9th with a score of 5755.

BMC Eltham , June 23
In the BMC Meeting at Eltham, Katie Snowden set a huge PB of 2:05.7 to go top of the Power of Ten U17 800m rankings. The Herne Hill Harrier had in previous weeks won the South of England U17 title and surprisingly the Aviva England U20 World Trials Championships over 400m. In the latter she had improved her 400m best by over a second from 55.70 to 54.59, and then taking that confidence into her next 800m at Eltham, she passed 400m in 62 seconds and held on well to take three and a half seconds off her previous best.

BMC Regional Open, Birmingham June 23
Joseph Lancaster, who already tops the Power of Ten U15 800m rankings with a 1:58.78, produced the highlight of this meeting with a 2:00.78 clocking.

Cambridge Harriers Open, Eltham, June 23
Josh Street went top of the Power of Ten U17 400m rankings when he ran a personal best 48.3 to win the 400m race at Eltham. The South London Harrier, who missed out on gold in the Aviva Under 17 Indoor Championships by just 0.02 to Alex Boyce, won his race by three seconds.
The WMRA Youth Mountain Running Challenge, Turin, June 26
Wales’ Ffion Price fought off the challenge of a Russian trio to win the gold medal in a time of 16:32.
Laura Riches in fifth, Beckie Taylor in sixth and Emma Spencer in tenth gave England the silver medals with Scotand in fourth and Wales fifth.
The home nations fared less well in the boys race with Marc Scott in ninth the only one inside the top 10 and England finished fifth place.

Southern Men’s League, Ipswich, June 26
Talented 17 year-old Matti Mortimore set a PB 61.18 to strengthen his position in the Power of Ten top 10 to prove he is getting back to form after a car accident cut his 2009 season short.
Southern Women’s League, Canterbury, June 26
The South of England U20 and U17 champion Louisa James set a Under 17 British hammer record of 54.87.
