WEEKEND ROUND-UP 18-19 JUNE 2022

Merck-Laufgala Pfungstadt, Germany, 18 June

Kyle Langford (coach: Jon Bigg, club: Shaftesbury Barnet) is rounding into form at the right time with the UK Athletics Championships one week away as he recorded a personal best and his quickest time since 2020 in the men’s 800m. The time of 1:44.61 was well within the World Championships qualifying standard and earned him a victory in the race.

Meanwhile, Neil Gourley (Ben Thomas, Giffnock North) also bagged a qualifying standard for Oregon in the race, adding to the 1500m time he has already secured. He was second behind Langford in a huge personal best of 1:44.82 – his previous best had stood at 1:46.12 from 2019.

Mia McIntosh (Jake Awe, Harrow) recorded a British U18 record in the girls 100m hurdles with a time of 13.34 (-0.2) in the heats, which improved Lucy-Jane Matthews’ previous best of 13.38. A British U17 record fell in the girls 400m hurdles as Stephanie Okoro (Tony Benton, Havering) set a time of 58.65, and improvement from 60.64 for her, to lower Hayley McLean’s previous record. It was also a UK U18 best.

Jamie Carrott (Joe McDonnell, Charnwood) won the boys 200m with a PB and European U18 qualifying standard of 21.42 (-0.1) while Dean Patterson (Norrie Hay, Glasgow School of Sport) was also within the time with 21.50 in second.
