KPMG 29th Guernsey Easter Runs St Peter Port, Guernsey, 5 April

Jonny Thewlis (Rotherham) scored a 10 second victory 69:41 over Jonathan Hay (Aldershot, Farnham & District U20) 69:51 with Steve Dawes (Guernsey) finishing in third 70:02. Stephanie Twell (Aldershot, Farnham & District U23) completed her third individual victory of the weekend with a course record of 71:56 in sixth place overall and team-mate Emma Pallant (Aldershot, Farnham & District U23) claiming another second place in 13th place overall 76:22 with Martine Scholes (Guernsey) in third and 18th overall 82:10.

Isle of Man Easter Festival 4, Port Erin April

James Walsh (Leeds City) recorded the fastest time in the men’s 4x5km relay 14:59 with Matthew Gillespie (Shettleston) 15:26 second fastest and Andy Norman 15:27 third fastest. The women’s 5km race was won by Emma Raven (Chester-le-Street) 17:15 from Sarah Inglis (Lothian) 17:53 and Aiveen Fox (Morpeth) 18:10.

Mansfield Open, 4 April

Highlights from the meeting included both the men’s and women’s hammer events. Alex Smith (Sale Harriers Manchester U23) threw a PB 72.92m – the farthest by a Brit sicne 2004- to take the victory from Matthew Lambley (City of Sheffield) who also threw a PB of 70.72m with Mark Dry (Woodford Green with Essex Ladies U23), the 2009 top ranking PofTen thrower in third with 69.61m. There were other fine performances from James Bedford (Birchfield) 67.41m, Peter Smith (Birchfield U23) 66.87m, Ashley Gilder (Notts U17) PB 65.73m, Chris Shorthouse (Notts U23) PB 64.89m and Dominic Sykes (Lincoln Wellington U17) 50.39m.

In the women’s event Sophie Hitchon (Blackburn U20) threw a PB of 65.83m to go to the top of the PofTen rankings and set a new UK U20 record. Rachel Gair (Mansfield) finished in second place 57.65m and Abbi Carter (Hull Achilles U17) threw a PB of 53.41m for third. Other throws included: Jenna Winson (Derby U23) PB 52.95m, Stephanie Hendy (Peterborough U20) PB 47.15m, Bethany Mitchell (Sutton-in-Ashfield U20) 42.49m and Sarah Stanhope (Lincoln Wellington U17) 40.72m.

Chelmsford Open, Chelmsford 3 April

Highlight from the early season meeting was Aaron Pitt (City of Norwich U15) winning the 400m in 50.44. Martin Lloyd (Bexley) cleared 2.10m in the high jump while in the pole vault Robert Wood (Basildon U17) cleared 3.80m and in the long jump Mitchell Etheridge (Basildon U17) leapt to a PB 6.55m.

KPMG 29th Guernsey Easter Runs Keith 4.75 miles Cross Country, L’ancresse, Guernsey, 3 April

Jonathan Hay (Aldershot, Farnham & District U20) came back to record his second win clocking 25:06 for the 4.75 mile cross country course. Sam Bradley (Tonbridge U20) took second place in 25:18 with Steve Dawes (Guernsey) finishing in third 25:15. Stephanie Twell (Aldershot, Farnham & District U23) was another recording her second victory in 10th place overall 26:09, the second best run ever by a 20 year old- with Emma Pallant (Aldershot, Farnham & District U23) claiming second place again in 16th overall and third again was Louise Perrio (Guernsey Island) in 19th place overall 28:16.

Isle of Man Easter Festival Peel Hill Race, Port Erin 3 April

James Walsh (Leeds City) took his second victory in the series 20:58 coming home with a comfortable margin over Matthew Gillespie (Shettleston) 21:42 and Michael Gillespie (Central) 21:50. Sarah Inglis (Lothian) also scored her second victory 17:54 from Sula Young (Highgate) 18:02 and Emma Raven (Chester-le-Street) 18:22.

Duke Invitational, Durham NC, USA 3 April

Natalie Pearson (City of Sheffield) raced to an 11.71 (0.5) PB over 100m after an 11.83 (-0.4) heat victory. She was also in good form in the 200m running what would have been a PB without an illegal wind with another victory in the 200m recording 23.62 (3.1).

Texas Relays, Austin TX, USA 3 April

In the men’s 100m Gerald Phiri (City of Sheffield) sped to a winning 10.17 (0.6) clocking while Yasmine Regis (Windsor, slough, Eton & Hounslow) finished second in the triple jump with distance of 13.33 (2.2).

Tiger Track Classic, Auburn AL, USA 3 April

Kara-Aretha Graham (Newham & Essex Beagles) finished sixth in the 200m clocking 24.89 (2.3) while Stephanie Barnes (Bristol & West) clocked 9:47.42 for victory in the 3000m.

Tom Benich Classic, Greeley CO, USA 3 April

Glen Watts (Shaftesbury Barnet) finished in third place in the 3000mSC in a time of 9:36.38.

KPMG 29th Guernsey Easter Runs 10km, Port Soif, Guernsey, 2 April

Jonathan Hay (Aldershot, Farnham & District U20) scored an excellent win clocking 31:25 in his debut over 10km with Lee Merrien (Newham & Essex Beagles) in second 31:36 and Sam Bradley (Tonbridge U20) taking third in a PB of 31:47. Stephanie Twell (Aldershot, Farnham & District U23) was first female finishing in 12th place overall with 33:06 and club-mate Emma Pallant (Aldershot, Farnham & District U23) claiming second place and 16th overall with a PB of 34:15 and third female was Louise Perrio (Guernsey) in 24th place overall clocking a PB of 36:39.

Salford 10km 2 April

Mark Buckingham (Holmfirth) took the victory clocking 29:59 from club-mate Matthew Pierson (Holmfirth) 30:07 and Steve Hepples (Newham & Essex Beagles) 30:37. Sonia Samuels (Sale Harriers Manchester) was first female in 19th place overall 33:24, Rebecca Howarth (Leigh) 36:14 in 65th place was second female and Gemma Unsworth (Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde) 37:35 third female in 86th place.

Isle of Man Easter Festival 10km, Port Erin 2 April

James Walsh (Leeds City) took the victory 30:39 in convincing fashion coming home 57 seconds clear of Matthew Gillespie (Shettleston) 31:36 and Andy Norman (Altrincham) 32:06. In the women’s race Sarah Inglis (Lothian) had a comfortable victory 35:56 over Emma Raven (Chester-le-Street) 36:18 and Sula Young (Highgate) 37:22.

Colonial Relays, Williamsburg VA, USA 2 April

In the men’s 400m hurdles Toby Ulm (Swindon) won his heat clocking 51.42 while in the heats of the 800m Leonie Smith (Aldershot, Farnham & District) finished in third place with 2:11.22. Kiki Malomo-Paris (North Down U20) finished in ninth place in the long jump with a leap of 5.47 (-0.7).

Florida Relays, Gainesville FL, USA 2 April

Justin Taylor (Florida University) clocked a PB of 3:43.72 for fifth place in his heat of the 1500m while in her heat of the 800m Charlotte Browning (Aldershot, Farnham & District) was first past the line clocking 2:06.42 and in the 1500m Stacey Johnson (Cannock & Stafford) finished in sixth place in her heat clocking 4:24.40.

Sam Howell Memorial Invitation, Princeton NJ, USA 2 April

Alex Felce (Cheltenham) finished in third place in the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 8:57.94 while in the women’s 5000m Mel Newbery (Ealing, Southall & Middlesex U20) won in 16:35.23.

Texas Relays, Austin TX, USA 2 April

Gerald Phiri (City of Sheffield) won his heat of the 100m in 10.33 (2.7) while Amy Harris (Birchfield) finished in sixth place in the long jump with a leap of 6.21m (1.2).
