Asics Wilmslow Half Marathon (inc. England Athletics HM Championships) 28 March
Andi Jones (Salford) had a comfortable victory clocking 64:45 ahead of Gareth Raven (Sale Harriers Manchester) 65:37 and Matthew Pierson (Holmfirth) 65:47. In the women’s event Michelle Ross-Cope (City of Stoke) took the victory in a PB of 72:02 ahead of Rebecca Robinson (Kendal) 73:17 and Alyson Dixon (Chester-le-Street) third in 74:04.

B&Q Eastleigh 10km 28 March
The men’s race was won by Josh Lilly (Severn) in 30:04 four seconds ahead of Ben Fish (Blackburn) 30:08 with Dean Lacey (Cambridge) in third place 30:27. The women’s event saw Laura Kenney (Royal Sutton Coldfield) take the victory in 32:48 with Claire Hallissey (Bristol & West) 33:10 finishing second and Justina Heslop (Clapham Chasers) 33:20 third.

Jim Dingwall Memorial 10K, Glasgow 28 March
Tsegezab Woldemichael (Shettleston) took the victory clocking 30:28 with Derek Hawkins (Kilbarchan) 30:35 in second and Tewoldeberhan Mengisteab (Shettleston) 30:38 in third and under-20 Matthew Gillespie (Shettleston) taking fourth in a fine 30:50.

Victorian Open & AWD Track & Field Champs, Melbourne, AUS 28 March
In the final of the 400m Melanie Purkiss (Team Southampton) finished in fifth place recording 55.64.

Midlands Counties Open, Birmingham 27/28 March
Highlights from the meeting included Bernice Wilson (Birchfield) in the 60m 7.43 and 100m 11.83 and Ashley Gilder (Notts U17) in the U17 hammer 62.73m.

SIAB Schools International Cross Country, Truro 27 March
The annual schools international saw four clean sweeps of the team titles by England with the first six places in three of the events. In the Junior Girls race, England claimed the first seven places with Loren Bleaken (Team Bath) 13:21 winning in an exciting finish by one second from Florrie McLeish (Preston) 13:22 with Abbie Hetherington (Carlisle Aspatria) taking the bronze medal 13:28. They were ably backed-up by Katy Wood (City of York) in fourth, Emily Smith (Yeovil) in fifth and Amy Griffiths (Leicester) in sixth place. The team positions and scores were 1. England 21, 2. Scotland 80, 3. Ireland 93, 4. Wales 134. The Intermediate Girls race also saw the first eight places being taken by English athletes with Jessica Judd (Chelmsford) 14:04 taking the title from Emily Wallbank (Bedford & County) 14:13 and third placed athlete Alice Wright 14:16 (Worcester). The other three counters were Susan Shiel-Rankin (Aldershot, Farnham & District) 14:19 in fourth, Ruth Haynes (Aldershot, Farnham & District) 14:26 in fifth and Georgia Taylor-Brown (East Cheshire) 14:31 in sixth place. Team scores and positions were: 1. England 21, 2. Ireland 98, 3. Wales 108, 4. Scotland 116. The Junior Boys race was won by Ahmed Sharif Hassan (Shettleston) 12:58 from Adam Howard (Oldham & Royston) 13:03 and Xander Tansey (Leicester) 13:25. England won the team event, well supported by Kieran Wye (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow) in sixth, Miles Burton (Team Bath) in seventh, Liam Stedman (Spenborough) in eighth and Ben Wilson (Poole) in 10th place totalling 36 points with Scotland in second 57 points, Ireland third 96, Wales 147. The Intermediate Boys race again saw England score the perfect points total to take the team title claiming the first six positions. The individual event was won by Harvey Dixon (Aldershot, Farnham & District) 18:25 from local athlete Conor Robinson (Cornwall) 18:39 and Robbie Farham-Rose (Tonbridge)18:48. The rest of the England team were Kieran Clements (Ipswich) in fourth, Gordon Benson (Leeds City) in fifth and Matthew Rose (Coventry) in sixth place. The team positions and scores were: 1. England 21, 2. Ireland 85, 3. Scotland 98, 4. Wales 139.

Home Countries International Cross Country, Mansfield 27 March
The Senior Men’s event was won by Bruce Raeside (Notts) 31:51 from James Walsh (Leeds City) 31:54 and Tom Russell (Bristol & West) 32:03. The team event saw England claiming the title with 13 points by virtue of their third and last counter finishing higher than Scotland who also had the same points total and Wales took third position with 29 points. The Junior Men’s event incredibly had the same situation in the team event with England again taking first place with 18 points by having their third counter in a higher placing than Scotland who had the same points score and the South took third spot with 23 points. Individually, Matthew Gillespie (Shettleston) took the honours 26:15 from Alex Tovey (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow) 26:22 with Ricky Challinor (Liverpool) claiming third 26:25. In the Senior Women’s race, Hatti Dean (Hallamshire) had a convincing win 25:09 over Hannah Whitmore (Charnwood) 25:27 who was well clear of Emma Pallant (Aldershot, Farnham & District) who took third place 25:43. The team event was won by England 7 points ahead of the South 34 and Scotland 39. The Junior Women’s race was also won in convincing fashion by Joanne Harvey (Exeter) 21:30 from Naomi Taschimowitz (Taunton) 21:42 and Laura Parker (Wells City) 22:05. England won the team event with the best possible score of 6 points from the South 26 and Scotland 27.

Victoria Park Open 5, London 27 March

Moumin Geele (Newham & Essex Beagles) took the victory in 23:01 from Edwin Kipyego 23:04 and Simon Tonni 23:51 with Justina Heslop (Clapham Chasers) taking the women’s race in 26:59.

Beynon Sports Surfaces Catamount Classic, Cullowhee NC, USA 27 March

In the women’s 100m Natalie Person (City of Sheffield) won her round in a PB of 11.51 (-1.5) and repeated that performance with victory in the 200m with a PB of 23.91 (-2.1).

FSU Relays, Tallahassee FL, USA 27 March
Amy Harris (Bicrhfield) finished in fifth place in the triple jump with 12.29m (-1.2).

Maryland Invitational, College Park MD, USA 27 March

Kiki Malomo-Paris (North Down U20) finished in third place in the long jump with a leap of 5.64 (3.1).

Raleigh Relays, Raleigh NC, USA 27 March
In the men’s steeplechase Matthew Graham (Kirkintilloch U20) finished in second place in a time of 9:16.62.

Stanford University Invitational, Stanford CA, USA 27 March
Lawrence Doherty (unattached U20) finished in second place in his heat of the U20 400m clocking a PB of 50.17 while in the women’s 800m Lucy Yates (Shaftesbury Barnet) finished in fifth place in her heat with 2:08.72.

Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K, Richmond VA, USA 27 March

In the 10km road race Andrew Lemomcello (Fife) finished in third place recording a time of 29:16.

Victorian Open & AWD Track & Field Champs, Melbourne, AUS 27 March
Melanie Purkiss (Team Southampton) finished in second place in her heat of the 400m clocking 56.52 while in the discus Sarah Hewitt (Brighton & Hove V35) threw 36.42m for fifth place.

Wexiö Indoor Throwing Competition, Växjö, SWE 27 March

In the men’s discus Dan Greaves threw an unofficial world record (see next report) whilst
Brett Morse (Birchfield) finished in third place with a throw of 60.14m while in the women’s event Phillipa Roles also finished in third place throwing 54.49m with Navdeep Dhaliwal (Birchfield) one place behind in fourth 47.13m.

Raleigh Relays, Raleigh NC, USA 26 March
Toby Ulm (Swindon) finished in third place in his heat of the 400m recording 47.97 while Jonathan Gault (Dartmouth College U20) finished in eighth place in the 5000m 15:07.94.

Stanford University Invitational, Stanford CA, USA 26 March
In the men’s events James Alaka (Blackheath & Bromley) finished in third place in the 100m 10.63 (0.4) while in the long distance track events Joe MacDonald (Trafford) finished in 10th place in his heat of the 5000m in a PB of 13:54.08 while Daniel Watts (Peterborough) ran 14:29.29 in 22nd place in his heat. In the 10000m Keith Gerrard (Newham & Essex Beagles) finished in fifth place recording a huge PB of 28:42.51. The women’s events saw Kirsty Legg (Middlesbrough Mandale) finish in eighth place in her 1500m heat 4:28.34 while in the 5000m Ruth Senior (City of Norwich) finished in fifth place in her heat recording a massive PB performance of 15:57.32. In the same heat Andrea Woodvine (Aldershot, Farnham & District) finished in 10th place with a new life-time best of 16:08.66. Katie Clark (Kingston upon Hull U20) finished in 19th place in her heat recording 16:45.86 while Ashley Gibson (Elswick) finshed third in heat with a PB performance of 16:35.67 and Carolyn Boosey (Vale of Aylesbury) clocked 17:19.69 for 30th place. In the 10000m Nicky Archer (Vale Royal) finished in12th place recording a PB by over a minute with 33:32.83.

Victor Lopez Classic, Houston TX, USA 26 March

Lennie Waite (Rice University) won the 3000m steeplechase in 10:04.49.

In the pole vault Irie Hill (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow V40) cleared 3.50m for second place.
