British Universities College Sport (BUCS) Championships, Bedford

World Junior 1500m champion Stephanie Twell (St Marys) ventured into longer distance territory as she won the women’s 5000m in 16:03.94. She was followed home by training partner Emma Pallant (Brunel) in 16:27.12. Pallant, World Junior 1500m bronze medallist, also took gold in her favoured distance, clocking 4:24.34. Other winners included Joey Duck (Brunel) who won the women’s 100m in 11.64 (+0.7m/s) and GB & NI 400m international Richard Buck (Leeds Met) who took the one lap title in 47.27.

Jamaica International, Kingston

Olympic bronze medallist Tasha Danvers (Shaftesbury Barnet) made her first outing of 2009 over 400m hurdles and placed 6th in 57.15. Olympic 200m fifth-placed Christian Malcolm (Cardiff AAC) was 5th in the men’s 200m in 21.06 (+1.3m/s).

Great Edinburgh Run

In Sunday’s 10k through the Scottish capital, Olympic marathon runner Dan Robinson (Stroud) made his first competitive outing of 2009, coming home 18th in 31:34. John Brown (Salford Harriers) was the leading Brit, 5th in 29:56. Katrina Wootton (Bedford & County) was the leading British woman, coming home 7th in 34:18, over what is a renowned hilly course.
