Great Manchester Games, 17 May

Chris Thompson (Aldershot Farham & District) ran a brave race to finish in sixth place in personal best time for the 10k road race which was held earlier in the day.

Despite the windy conditions, the 28-year-old set a lifetime best of 28:45, passing through 5km in 13:48, which also equated to a personal best. The performance puts Chris to the top of the McCain Power of 10 rankings.

Fresh from a 27:57.23 10000m performance in the USA last month, Fife’s Andrew Lemoncello was the next British competitor home in seventh, setting a lifetime best of 29:17.

Grande Premio Rio, 17 May

Richard Yates (Trafford AC) opened his 400m hurdles campaign in Rio de Janeiro this weekend at the Grande Premio Rio/Caixa de Atletismo.

In sweltering temperatures of 33°C he finished fifth in 50.86 in a race won by Brazil’s Mahau Comargo Suguimati in 49.42 with LaRon Bennett from the USA taking second in 49.54.

Ponce Grand Prix, 17 May

Dwain Chambers delivered a solid seasonal opener over 100m at the Ponce Grand Prix, Puerto Rico.

The Belgrave Harrier finished second in the 100m in a World Championship qualifying time of 10.21 (-0.5) and was only two-hundredths behind the winner Churandy Martina from the Dutch Antilles.

Regis consolidates in Texas, 17 May 2009

YASMINE REGIS jumped 13.41(-0.6) at the Big 12 Championships in Lubbock, Texas.

The Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow athlete won the triple jump with her best legal outdoor mark of the season after her windy 13.55 and 13.52 indoors.

California dreaming …16 May 2009

JEMMA SIMSPON ran 2:01.58 to finish second at the Adidas Track Classic in Carson, California.

This puts the Newquay & Par athlete in third place in the Power of 10 rankings.

MICHAEL BINGHAM ran 20.75 (-1.2) at the Georgia Tech Invitation meeting in Atlanta to finish in first place.

This puts the Trafford athlete in second place in the Power of 10 rankings.
