Aviva Great Britain & Northern Ireland throws athletes launched their 2009 seasons in Los Realejos, Tenerife at the Winter Throwing event this weekend.

Amongst the GB highlights were Brett Morse (Birchfield Harriers) taking third place in the U23 discus with a personal best of 57.49m; Mark Edwards (Birchfield) finishing second with 19.33m whilst Kieran Kelly (Newham & Essex) set an outdoor PB in the shot finishing sixth in group B with 18.77m; Mervyn Luckwell (Marshall Milton Keynes) took third in the javelin with 74.86m and Alex Smith (Sale Harriers) finishing sixth in the U23 hammer in 66.04m.

Eden Francis (Birchfield) was best of the women with her first place in the U23 discus with 54.19m and also competed in the shot reaching out to 15.56m. Zoe Derham (Birchfield Harriers) was fourth in the hammer with 64.93m and Carys Parry (Woodford Green Essex Ladies) was sixth just 30cm behind in 64.63m.

Finally – in a continuation of the form she has consistently showed throughout this winter, Kate Dennison (Sale Harriers) once again scaled the heights to achieve a new GB record on Saturday 14 March.

Dennison – competing in the Perche Tour in Oyonnax, France, cleared 4.49m.
