SEAA Championships (Inc U15/U17 Pentathlon Championships, Lee Valley, January 9
Morgan Lake (Coach Eldon Lake) won the Under 15 Championships with a UK age group indoor record of 3628 points, which was 400 points up on her corresponding win of last year and an Uk record by 76 points. She opened with a PB 9.12 60m hurdles, then achieved a 12.20m shot and then a big personal best of 1.75 in the high jump, which was 21cm better than any of her competitors achieved and indeed better than any of the U17 and U15 boys achieved! She wasn’t at her very best in the long jump, where she achieved 5.23m and a 2:43.78 800m, but it was enough to give her a 400 point victory.
In the 300m, Aviva English Schools 100m medallist Sabrina Bakare (Coach: Jane Dixon) made a superb 300m debut to time 39.41.
Lee Valley U13/U15 Open, January 8
At the same venue, Lathursan Vinayagamoorthy (Coach: Margaret Nelson) went third on the all-time U13 60m lists with a 7.93 clocking.
Manchester Indoor Pole Vault, January 8
IAAF World Junior Championships bronze medallist Andrew Sutcliffe (Coach: Julian Raffalli Ebezant) made a good start to 2011 with a 5.23m victory to go top of the McCain Power of Ten pole vault senior rankings.
Fellow teenager and World junior medallist Holly Bleasdale (Coach: Julian Raffalli Ebezant) did likewise in the women’s event with a 4.28 clearance.
Manchester Open, January 2
In finishing second to Paul Bradshaw (Coach: Trevor Painter) who won in 80.71, Jordan Bransberg (Andrew Medley) ran a time of 81.44 which broke Julian Spooner’s 24 year-old UK Under 17 record.
