North of England Championships, Sheffield, January 15/16

Most eyes were on World and European champion Jessica Ennis (Coach: Toni Minichello) who got off to a great start in 2011. She set an indoor PB in finishing second in the shot with 14.11m, a 10cm improvement from when winning the IAAF world indoor title in Doha.

That puts her third in the McCain Power of Ten rankings with training partner Amy Hill (Minichello) heading the 2011 rankings with her 14.96m victory.

Ennis also went top of the 60mh rankings with a 8.15 victory and her sharp 7.44 timing in the 60m heats places her fourth.

Bernice Wilson (George Skafidis) won the 60m final in 7.34, which places her second in the POT rankings.

Luke Cutts (Coach: Trevor Fox) went top of the 2011 men’s pole vault rankings with a 5.40m victory. His best is 5.53m from exactly a year earlier. Nicolas Cole and Adam Hague, both also coached by Fox, also went top of the POT rankings in the respective Under 17 and under 15 lists with personal bests of 4.25m and 3.90m.

Aviva English Schools champion Kate Anson (Sharon Louise Walls) went top of the POT Under 17 high jump rankings with a 1.73m victory and Aviva Under 20 indoor champion  James Davies (Keith Hunter) set a PB in the Under 20 long jump of 7.15m to lead the POT lists..

South of England Championships, Lee Valley, January 15/16

Olympic finalist Jeanette Kwayke (Coach: Michael Afilaka) showed her best form since her successful 2008 season as she returns from injury with a 7.28 60m victory, which puts her top of the 2011 POT rankings and that gave her a three metre victory over Commonwealth medallist Katherin Endacott (Linford Christie) who timed 7.51 in the final after a 7.47 heat.

Gemma Bennett (Lloyd Cowan) won the 60m hurdles in 8.16 to go second in the POT rankings to Ennis.

Midland Counties Open, Birmingham, January 15

Adele Nicoll (Coach: Trevor Marsay), who already heads the Under-15 shot rankings, went top of the discus rankings with a 35.40m throw
