Hull Hammer Competition, Hull, April 10

Commonweath silver medallist Alex Smith (Coach: Shane Peacock) enjoyed his first 70m throw of the year with a win in 70.46m to go top of the McCain Power of Ten rankings in the hammer.

James Bedford (Coach: Dave Smith) threw 67.47m to go third in the rankings.

Brighton Marathon, April 10

Alyson Dixon (Coach: Liz McColgan) won in 2:34:51, to set a PB by eight minutes and go top of the McCain Power of Ten rankings

Kingston Upon Hull Open, April 10

James Campbell (Coach: Mick Hill) went top of the McCain Power of Ten rankings in the javelin with a throw of 77.27m

Spar Great Ireland 10km, Dublin, April 10

Charlotte Purdue (Coach: Mick Woods) won in a fast 32:42 to go top of the McCain/Power of Ten 10km rankings and improve her PB despite a hard run the day before at the National Relays, while runner-up Gemma Steel also set a personal best of 33:03 to go second in the rankings.

National 12 stage relays and Women’s 6 stage Relays, Sutton Park, April 9

Aldershot, anchored by Charlotte Purdue (Coach: Mick Woods) were easy winners of the women’s 6-stage relays. They took gold 4 minutes ahead of Charnwood AC.

Purdue ran the fastest leg of 15:23.

The men’s was a much closed affair and was won by Tipton by just 22 seconds from Newham and Essex Beagles.

Morpeth’s Nick McCormick (Coach: Lindsay Dunn) ran the fastest short leg of 13:49. Phil Nicholls (coach: Bud Baldaro) ran the quickest long leg of 25:48.

Claremont, April 9

Olympic 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu (Coach: Lloyd Cowans) ran the second leg in an England all comers 4 x400 team that ran 3:50.43.

Tempe, April 9

In the 100m, World indoor champion Dwain Chambers clocked 10.51 into -1.2m wind in his outdoor debut at the Sun Angel Classic and was second to USA’s Deun White (10.47).  Early in the season, it still took the top spot on the McCain Power of Ten rankings.

A GB team of Ricky Fifton, Christian Malcolm, Marlon Devonish and Chambers clocked a modest 39.93 in the 4x100m.

Texas Relays, Austin, April 8/9

European indoor medallist  Tiffany Ofili ran a fast 12.71 clocking which would have gone top of the McCain Power of Ten rankings but the time was heavily wind assisted and indeed the time is quicker than the 15 year-old British record of 12.80, held by Angie Thorp.

Amy Harris went top of the long jump rankings with a leap of 6.30m and she also had a wind-assisted jump of 6.32m.

Los Angeles, April 9

Brett Morse (Coach: Nigel Bevan) improved his performance at the top of the McCain Power of Ten rankings to a personal best 63.71m. That throw won him the competition and he now sits 8th on the UK all time lists.

He won by more than nine metres and his series was 61.96m,foul, 60.44m, 63.11m, 63.71m, foul

Watford Open Meeting, April 6

Jessica Judd (coach: Jeremy Freeman) who dominated the Under 17 cross-county scene over the winter, ran the fastest ever time by a British Under 17 at 3000m. Her 9:08.5 put her top of the McCain Power of Ten rankings but also made her sixth fastest women in 2011.
