Berlin 10km, October 9

Mara Yamauchi (coach: Shige Yamauchi) received a timely boost on her return to fitness at the Berlin 10km.  The Japan-based athlete, who missed the 2011 World Championships in Daegu through injury, came back with a bang to win the race in a time of 32:19 – her fastest time over the distance in six years and a result that puts Yamauchi second in the McCain power of 10 rankings.

Bank of America Chicago Marathon, October 9

Claire Hallissey secured the Olympic marathon qualifying standard by finishing sixth in the Chicago marathon.

A time of 2:29:27 was a new personal best for the Hertfordshire athlete and she now joins fellow Brit Paula Radcliffe (Gary Lough) in achieving the A standard.

Bupa Great Yorkshire 10km, October 9

European 10,000m silver medallist Chris Thompson (John Nuttall) finished second  in the Bupa Great Yorkshire 10km. The endurance specialist clocked a time of 29:03 with Kenyan Micah Kogo achieving first place.

In the women’s race Gemma Steel (John Nuttall) sprang a surprise by winning in a time of 32:52 and overcoming Jo Pavey (Gavin Pavey) who ran 33:12.

Leeds Varsity Match, Leeds, October 5

Alex Wright (Andi Drake) set a UK one mile walk record at the annual Leeds Varsity Match held between Leeds Met Carnegie and the University of Leeds. Wright broke Andy Penn’s 14-year record in a time of 5:58.4. Meanwhile, Tom Bosworth (Andi Drake) set a new personal best over the same distance: 6:06.7.
