Weekend round-up (8-9 October)

ERRA 6 & 4 Stage Relays, Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield, 8 October

Aldershot, Farnham and District claimed the senior men’s six stage title by the narrowest of margins as they edged out Leeds by five seconds. Jack Rowe (Tim Eglen) anchored the team to victory, also clocking the fastest leg of the day, with his time of 16:39.

Joshua Grace (Geoff Watkin), Will Barnicoat, Ricky Harvie (Eglen), Ben Bradley (Craig Winrow) and Sam Eglen composed the rest of the AFD outfit who took the victory.

Leeds City claimed second place with Cambridge and Coleridge in a clear third place overall in the men’s 6 stage contest.

Tonbridge claimed team victory in the senior women’s 4 stage. Lucy Reid (Richard Owen) took the team up from third to first on the final leg to overhaul Salford Harriers and Aldershot, Farnham and District who claimed second and third overall.

Lucy Thompson, Phoebe Barker and Nicole Taylor (all coached by Richard Owen) preceded Reid’s leg and set her up well for a tilt at the ERRA crown on the final leg.

Amelia Quirk (Mick Woods, Bracknell) produced the fastest leg of the day in the senior women’s race with a time of 13:35.

Bank of America Chicago Marathon, USA, 9 October

Sarah Inglis (Lothian) improved her marathon PB to 2:29:37 as she finished in the top ten of the Chicago marathon. She crossed the line in ninth position and she took four seconds off her previous best set in 2020.

Meanwhile in the elite men’s wheelchair race, JohnBoy Smith (Chris Parsloe, Sutton & District) was sixth in a time of 1:33:12.

Chiavenna-Lagunc Vertical Kilometre (Valsir Mountain Running World Cup), Italy, 8 October

Jacob Adkin (Robbie Simpson, Keswick) earned a superb victory at the final race of the 2022 Valsir Mountain Running World Cup.

The Briton, who has recently been selected to compete for GB & NI at next month’s World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Thailand, produced a fantastic performance to win the gruelling race ahead of Italy’s Matteo Eydallin and Henri Aymonod.

In the women’s race, Scout Adkin (Angela Mudge, Ambleside) won the battle with Italy’s Elisa Sortini to claim second place in the race behind Andrea Mayr.
