As well as the Aviva GB & NI trials for the IAAF World Junior Championships, there were just a few athletes competing elsewhere before the Aviva 2012 Trials begin on Friday. Day one and day two reports here from Bedford.

German National Paralympic Championships, Berlin, Germany 15-17 June

Libby Clegg (Keith Antoine), IPC World Champion in the T12 100m, recorded personal best performances over 100m and 200m at the German National Paralympic Championships in Berlin, exceeding her previous best times achieved at the Beijing Paralympic Games in 2008.

She won the T12 100m final in 12.44 after qualifying from her heat in a lifetime best of 12.41 (+1.2m/s).

In the 200m, she won in 26.10 into a minus 2.5m/s wind.

T35 Jordan Howe (Jane Coia) was equally impressive as he clocked a new PB in the 100m of 13.04 (+1.7m/s), smashing his previous best of 13.31 and in doing so, set a new European Record and went second on the global rankings for the year to date .

In the field events, highlights included a British Record for Sean Clare (Shelley Holroyd) in the F40 discus of 29.33m; a 35.04m throw for Hollie Arnold (Anthony Hughes) in the F36 javelin which was another consistent effort after breaking 35m for the first time in May; and a 44.85m throw for Scott Moorhouse (Dan Pfaff) in the F42 javelin.

Clare, a double IWAS World Junior Champion in 2011, added almost three metres to his 2010 best and in doing so achieved the UKA ‘A’ standard for the Paralympic Games for the second time.

Guernsey Half Marathon, June 17

Lee Merrien (John Nuttall), who is running the Olympic Marathon, won by over eight minutes in a time of 66:03.

Sundsvall, Sweden, June 17

Hayley Jones (Donald Moss) had a winning sprint double. She won the 100m in 11.42/1.0 and the 200m in 23.22/2.2. The 200m time was inside the Olympic B standard of 23.30 but won’t count due to the wind assistance. Laura Turner (Linford Christie) returned from injury and ran 11.95 for fourth behind Jones.

Bottnarydskastet, Bottnaryd, June 16

World finalist Brett Morse (Coach: Vesteinn Hafsteinsson)  finished fifth in the discus with 60.94m.

Third ranked Ruth Wallader (Geoff Capes) was third in the shot with 15.55m.

London Inter Club Challenge, June 16 

Commonwealth Games fifth placer Emeka Udechuku (self-coached) added four metres to his season’s best and it was his furthest throw for four years. That places him fifth in teh McCain Power of Ten rankings.

Velenje, June 14

Danny Talbot (Daniel Cossins) scored an impressive winning sprint double. He ran 10.24/0.1 in the 100m to  go sixth in the UK rankings and his time equalled the Olympic B standard.

His 200m time of 20.71/0.1 puts him eighth in the rankings. The Olympic B standard is 20.65.

Top ranked Alex Smith (Shane Peacock) was seventh in the hammer with 72.90m, his third best throw of the year.
