WEEKEND ROUND-UP - MCCOLGAN BREAK 10KM UK & EURO RECORD

Away from the Muller Birmingham Diamond League and Loughborough International, there were several notable performances across the globe from British athletes as the season starts to ramp up.

Great Manchester Run, 22 May 2022

Eilish McColgan (coach: Liz Nuttall, club: Dundee Hawkhill) broke Paula’s Radcliffe’s British and European 10km record after a superb run on the streets of Manchester.

The Scottish athlete has been in remarkable form so far in 2022, and her performance in the north west continued her record-breaking run which has seen her shake up the UK record lists.

The time of 30:19 was two seconds quicker than Radcliffe set in back in 2003. She finished second in the race behind Kenya’s Hellen Obiri who won in 30:15.

David Weir (Jenny Archer) and Eden Rainbow-Cooper (Jenny Archer) made it a Weir Archer Academy double in the wheelchair races.

Weir, who competed in the 800m at the Alexander Stadium on Saturday, recorded a time of 21:48 to win comfortably ahead of Sean Frame (Joyce Rammell, Red Star), while Rainbow-Cooper finished just three seconds ahead of Shelly Woods (Peter Wyman, Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde) in the women’s contest.
