Swiss Nationals, Arbon, Switzerland, 1-2 June
Hannah Cockroft (Jenni Banks) improved her world record in the T34 400m in incredible fashion, slicing 0.25 seconds off her previous best set in 2017 at the same track in Arbon. Her revised best stands at 57.48 over the one lap distance.
She also added victories in three other distances; the 100m in 17.87, going well over 200m in a time of 30.5, and she continued her good form over the 800m during this Swiss series, posting a time of 1:57.13.
World champion Sammi Kinghorn (Ian Mirfin; Red Star) won T53 100m in 16.96 from Angela Ballard (AUS) in 17.07 while she also added a win in the 200m, claiming it in 29.05.
In the T33 100m, Andrew Small (Rick Hoskins; Stockport) took another victory in an impressive European record of 16.98 from Dan Bramall (Peter Wyman; Kirkby) in 17.41. European champion Harri Jenkins (Anthony Hughes; DSW Para Academy) improved his career best over the distance with 18.02 (+1.6).
Also enjoying an impressive Swiss Nationals was Ben Rowlings (Ian Mirfin; Coventry) who clocked PBs over T34 100m and 200m with times of 16.00 and 27.51 respectively.
In the men’s T54 800m, Richard Chiassaro (Jenni Banks; Harlow) was fourth in the A race against a world class field, won in by Daniel Romanchuk. The Briton set a time of 1:31.61 on course to this solid showing in Arbon.
Nathan Maguire (Ste Hoskins; Kirkby AC) won a in separate T54 800m race in 1:31.95 which ranked him 6th overall in the standings, just behind Chiassaro.
In some quality T54 1500m races, Chiassaro was eighth overall in the standings after his 2:54.83 clocking. Nathan Maguire and Dan Sidbury (Christine Parsloe; Sutton & District) both went sub three minutes in 2:59.03 and 2:59.29 in separate races which left them 22nd and 25th in the standings.
Over the 200m, Maguire and Sidbury both pushed to PBs in the 200m, 24.54 and 25.47, while Chiassaro recorded 24.57.
Grand Prix Gliwice, Gliwice, Poland, 2 June
Lina Nielsen (Ryan Freckleton) took half a second off her 400m hurdles personal best out in Poland as she finished third in a quality race in 56.70 to go second on the national rankings.
Also in action were Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (Benke Blomkvist) who won the 100m in 10.26 (0.2), which was a season’s best and Anyika Onuora (Blomkvist) who also ran a season’s best of 23.90 (0.0) in the 200m.
Halle Throws International, Germany, 1-2 June
Scott Lincoln (Paul Wilson) and juniors James Tomlinson (Paul Jensen) and Sarah Omoregie (Gareth Lease) all set personal bests as a ten-strong British team competed at the prestigious Halle Throws International at the weekend.

Northern Athletics U20/Senior Championships, Sportcity, 1-2 June
European F20 Shot Put champion Sabrina Fortune (Ian Robinson) equalled her personal best of 13.70m in Manchester while Lee Thompson (John Henson) set a 46.62 season’s best to lift the 400m title, over a second clear of his nearest rival on a windy day.
Competing in the under-20 100m hurdles Abigail Pawlett (Joe Frost), who is still an under-17, took gold in an impressive personal best of 14.39 (0.0) whilst Archie Yeo (Martin Bishell) won the under-20 men’s long jump with a 7.45m (1.7) leap – he too is still an under-17.
Southern Outdoor U20/Senior Championships, Bedford, 1-2 June
Margaret Adeoye (Linford Christie) was one of the stars of the weekend in Bedford as she won the women’s 400m on her first outing in almost exactly a year. Adeoye clocked 53.47 for a narrow victory over Phillipa Lowe (Deborah Keenleyside).
Elsewhere Martyn Rooney won both the heats and semi-finals over 200m before withdrawing from the final, which was won by Edmond Amaning.
Slovakian National Championships, Slovakia, 1 June
Callum Wilkinson (Andi Drake) continued his fine start to the year as he recorded a new British record in the 10km race walk as a guest in Slovakia. With a qualification standard for the 20km race walk for the IAAF World Championships later this year long in the bag, Wilkinson clocked 39:31 for the win with compatriot Cameron Corbishley (Drake) third in 41:52.
IFAM Outdoor, Oordegem, Belgium, 1 June
Ellie Baker (Jon Bigg) took the win in the 800m over in Belgium, breaking the tape in 2.02.90, inside the qualifying mark for the European Under-23 Championships, while training partner Spencer Thomas (Bigg) also set a PB of 1.47.10 to win the men’s race.
European Mountain Running Championship Trial Race, Skiddaw, 2 June
Scots Jacob Adkin and Andrew Douglas (Sophie Dunnett) secured their places on the plane to Switzerland for the European Mountain Running Championships in Zermatt next month as the pair took the top two spots in the senior men’s trial race to secure automatic selection. In the uphill only race, Adkin repeated his victory on the course from 2018, getting the better of his fellow countryman by 25 seconds in the end.
In the senior women’s event stand-out favourite Sarah Tunstall edged out Hatti Archer (Bud Baldaro) in a closely fought battle, with both women securing their places on the GB team. In the junior races Matthew Mackay (Steve Duxbury) of Rossendale took the men’s race whilst Eve Pannone (Derek Hurton) secured her spot in the women’s.
2019 BA European Mountain Running Champs Trials Results
Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon, San Diego, California, USA, 2 June
Alice Wright continues to lower her half marathon personal best following a great outing in San Diego. With 73:17 and 74:25 efforts already this year, her first attempts over the distance, Wright enjoyed California as she clocked 71:37 to finish in third place.
Championnats Régionaux Epr Combinées, Oyonnax, France, 1-2 June
Katie Stainton (David Feeney) returned to fitness in good form as she scored 5846 points in her first completed heptathlon since August 2017 in France.
Stainton finished strong with a 2:13.36 800m while she also went within three centimetres of her personal best in the high jump after clearing 1.73m. He score was just 27 points shy of her personal best.
Music City Distance Carnival, Nashville, USA, 31 May-1 June
The music clearly inspired a number of British performers out in Tennessee, none more so than Thomas Staines who went top of the UK rankings with an impressive 1:45.67 800m clocking, which is just one tenth down on his personal best. That run, his fastest in 2019 to date, saw him finish third in his race, with Puerto Rican Wesley Vasquez winning in 1.44.68, but importantly for Staines he was inside the World Championship qualifying standard.
Another Brit to hit the mark for Doha was Rosie Clarke (David Harmer) as in her first steeplechase of the year she took the win in 9:39.08, comfortably going top of the Power of 10 rankings. Jamaine Coleman (Helen Clitheroe) also revised his personal best by a second in the 3000m steeplechase to take the win, putting him second on the Power of 10 rankings but just a fraction short of the World Championships qualifying time.
Loughborough Students Match, Loughborough, 29 May
Incorporating a pair of BMC Gold Standard races, it was junior 800m men Joshua Lay (Anthony Love) and Finley McLear who led the way in Loughborough on Wednesday night as Lay took the win in 1.48.87, with McLear also dipping inside 1.50. Notably for Lay, it was a big personal best and just over a tenth inside the European junior qualifying standard.
In the field, Taylor Campbell (John Pearson) produced a 73.10m effort in the hammer, whilst Zane Duquemin set a season’s best as he won the discus with a throw of 60.67m. On the track Andrew Pozzi (Santiago Antunez) ran 13.53 (1.8) to win the 110m hurdles.
BMC Regional Races, Brighton, 29 May
Adelle Tracey (Craig Winrow) stepped up to the 1500m with great effect on the south coast, the two lap specialist showing great strength to better her 2017 PB with a 4:10.03 run in a mixed race, a time that puts her third on the UK rankings. In the 800m Ellie Baker got the better of Shelayna Oskan-Clarke (both Bigg) 2:04.01 to 2:05.22, whilst Elliot Giles (Bigg) won the men’s event in 1.47.87, a season’s best.
