WEEKEND UPDATE

Away from the European Cross Country championships, where the British team came away with six medals, there was plenty of action going on domestically.

 

Telford 10k, Telford, 9 December

Emily Hosker-Thornhill (coach: Mick Woods) continued her fine winter form, as she showed her rivals a clean pair of heels to win the Telford 10km women’s race by almost 30 seconds. The Aldershot, Farnham and District athlete crossed the line in 32:52, with Hayley Carruthers (Gary Warhurst) clocking a 30 second personal best ahead of Jenny Nesbitt (David Walker) to round out the podium.

The men’s race saw an impressive 17 athletes break the 30 minute barrier, Callan Moody leading the way with a 29:31 personal best. Just three seconds separated the first six athletes, with Jack Gray (Nick Price) and Lucian Allison (Mark Baddeley) taking second and third respectively.

Scottish East District Cross Country Championships, Aberdeen, 8 December

Jamie Crow (Tony Houchin) returned from America to win the regional championships in a closely fought race; the Central AC man edged out Michael Christoforou and Calum McKenzie (Moray Anderson) by three and four seconds respectively. The women’s race was much more clear cut, Crow’s teammate Morag Miller winning by almost two minutes.

Scottish West District Cross Country Championships, Kilmarnock, 8 December

A race-long battle saw Lachlan Oates (John Montgomery) prevail in the senior men’s race as he got the better of GB mountain running international Andrew Douglas (Sophie Dunnett).

In the women’s race, Kilbarchan’s Elspeth Curran (Laurie Spence) continued her great start to the cross country season, putting almost a minute into her nearest rival.
