BUPA Great South Run, October 24

In The BUPA Great South Run, behind race winner Joseph Ebuya’s course record of 45:16,  Scott Overall led the UK men’s challenge as he held off Andrew Lemoncello. Overall finished fourth in a PB 47:37, four seconds ahead of the former steeplechaser as the pair went one-two in the Power of Ten rankings.

Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion Grace Momanyi made it a Kenyan double as she won the women’s race in 52:03, but chasing her hard, Freya Murray (Coach: Steve Jones) produced a fine performance on her ten-mile debut to take the runner-up spot in 52:27.

The Scotswoman moves to No.6 on the UK all-time lists. Gemma Steel from Charnwood finished fifth in a big PB of 53:44, just ahead of the Commonwealth Games 1500m bronze medallist Stephanie Twell (Coach: MickWoods) , who took sixth in 53:52 on her 10 mile debut as the trio went 1-2-3 on the PoT rankings.

EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon, October 24

Kenyan teenager Edwin Kipyego added this event which attracted 11,000 runners to wins already achieved this year at Bristol, Peterborough, Reading and Portsmouth. His winning time was 63:50. Phil Nicholls (Coach: Lindsay Dunn) ran strongly for third in a PB 64:57 which moves him into the top dozen in the PoT rankings.

Scotland’s Susan Partridge (Coach: John Montgomery) successfully defended her women’s title in 73:56 by over 500m though her best time remains 72:45 from Bath earlier in the year which gives her fifth place in the rankings.

Bournemouth AC’s Susie Hignett who won the English Schools 3,000m title in 2004, ran a fast 75:45 but missed out on third place by just one second to Kenya’s Sarah Kiptoo.
