Lotto Cross Cup, Hannut, February 13

Three times European junior champion Stephanie Twell (coach: Mick Woods) suffered a fractured ankle while seemingly on her way to a clear victory in the women’s 5700m race.

In Twell’s absence, Gemma Steel had the race of her life to win in 19:58, outsprinting the Kenyan Antonio Rutto. South of England champion Naomi Taschjmowitz (coach: Charlotte Fisher) finished eighth in 20:19.

British juniors gained a clean sweep of the top three placings in their 6700m race with Jonathan Hay (coach: Mick Woods) winning in 22:07 from fellow Aldershot Mick Woods-coached runners Ian Bailey on 22:23 and Josh Grace on 22:29.

There was a one-two in the junior women’s 4400m race with Ruth Haynes (also Woods) in 16:11 leading home Beth Carter (also Woods) on 16:20 as Beth Swords missed out on a clean sweep by a second in fourth in 16:31.

South of England champion Neilson Hall was the leading senior man over 10,500m in 33:40 with Jon Pepper 12^th in 33:46.

Rock N Roll Mardi Gras New Orleans Marathon, February 13

Joasia Zakrzewski  took 14 minutes off her PB to win in 2:47:25 and go top of the McCain Power of Ten rankings.

Schrool 10K, Holland, February 13

Michelle Ross Cope (coach: Bud Baldaro) just missed going top of the McCain PoT ranking women’s 10km ranking by four seconds with a victory in 33:32 on an undulating course on a blustery day.

Flotrack Husky Classic, Seattle, February 11/12

On an overssize track, there were fast times over 3000m for Ross Millington (7:54.08 in 13^th, an 18 second PB) and Thomas Farrell (7:54.42 in 14th, a four second PB) who both ran slightly quicker than Andy Baddeley (coach: Andrew Hobdell) did in winning the Aviva Trials in Sheffield and they went second and third in the McCain PoT rankings.

Natalie Gray (coach: Bill Foster) went top of the PoT 5000m rankings with a time of 15:54.29 which was 20 seconds quicker than her outdoor best. Luke Cragg (coach: Phil Townsend) went top of the McCain PoT men’s 5000m rankings with a 10^th place in 13:51.63, which also bettered his outdoor best.

Fayetteville, USA, February 11

Edinburgh’s Tulsa University-based Chris O’Hare had an astonishing breakthrough. With a best of 4:04, he won the Mile in a time of 3:56.48 to narrowly beat the Kenyan Silas Kisorio and go top of the McCain PoT rankings. Last year he was ranked just 60th at 1500m, but so far in 2011, he has won all his four races in America.

Liévin, February 8

Jenny Meadows (coach: Trevor Painter) continued her successful  indoor season with a strong victory in the 800m, and won by two seconds in 2:00.29 to go top of the McCain PoT rankings.
