Weekend Update

The first Samsung Diamond League meeting of the summer took place in Doha, Qatar with 11 world leading performances. Michael Rimmer (coach: Norman Poole) was the pick of the Brits with a second place finish in the 800m (1:45.12); other event highlights across the weekend included:

Kawasaki, Japan, May 8

Richard Davenport (coach: Nick Dakin) was the sole British competitor and finished third in the 400m hurdles in 50.35.

Indianapolis, May 7

Finishing fourth, Scott Overall went third in the McCain POT rankings at the half-marathon with a PB time of 63:21.

Kingston, May 7

European and Commonwealth champion Andy Turner (coach: Lloyd Cowan) continued his superb early season form over the 110m hurdles when he gained a clear win in 13.28, which ranks him second in the world in 2011 and of course top of the McCain Power of Ten rankings. American Terrence Trammell, matching his position from two Olympics and three World Championships, was second.

Turner’s time missed his all time legal best by just one-hundredth of a second.

IAAF Diamond League, Doha, May 6

European silver medallist Michael Rimmer (coach: Norman Poole) went top of the McCain Power of Ten 800m rankings when he finished second in the first big international meeting of the summer. He clocked a time of 1:45.12 to finish three metres down on Olympic 1500m champion Asbel Kiprop of Kenya and gain some notable scalps. Behind Rimmer was 2007 World champion Alfred Yego in third while European champion Marcin Lewandowski of Poland was sixth.

Richard Yates (coach: Stephen Ball) finished sixth in the 400m hurdles to go third in the McCain/POT rankings.

Tom Parsons (coach: Fayyaz Ahmed) was eighth in the high jump with 2.23m. His indoor best in 2011 which tops the overall rankings is 2.31.

Orlando, May 5

Youth Olympics bronze medallist David Bolarinwa (coach: John Powell) ran a windy 10.49/2.4 100m for second place. He currently tops the McCain POT rankings for under-20 men with his 10.69 from the week before at Orlando.

James Ellington (Powell) ran 10.42/1.5 to finish second in another race to go third in the McCain/POT rankings.

Olympic 100m finalist Jeannette Kwayke (coach: Michael Afilaka) went second in the McCain POT 100m rankings with a 11.59/-1.3 clocking that placed her second.
