Chicago Marathon, 13 October 2019

David Weir (Jenny Archer; Weir Archer Academy) continued his impressive form in the Abbots World Marathon Majors as he finished second in 1:33.31 behind the highly impressive American, Daniel Romanchuk.

Weir won a frantic sprint to the line ahead of Ernst Van Dyk (RSA) and compatriot Johnboy Smith (Archer; Weir Archer Academy) – the Briton’s time, 1:33.32. Eventual winner Daniel Romanchuk clocked 1:30.26 and the following seven athletes were separated by two seconds, which created another entertaining affair in the men’s wheelchair race.

Briton Simon Lawson (Ian Thompson; Carlisle Tri) was 13^th in 1:33.54 while T52 athlete Rob Smith (Job King; Coventry) recorded a time of 2:08.57.

In the senior men’s elite race, Sir Mo Farah (Gary Lough; Newham & Essex Beagles) crossed the line in eighth position in a time of 2:09.58.

WMRA World Cup, Smarna Gora Mountain Running Race, Slovenia, 12 October 2019

Andrew Douglas (Sophie Dunnett; Inverclyde) confirmed his World Mountain Running Association World Cup title in Slovenia as he finished fourth in the race. Already holding an unassailable lead, Douglas ended the series on 525 points and heads into November’s World Mountain Running Championships in superb form.

Manchester Half Marathon, 13 October 2019

Samuel Kolek (Liverpool Harriers) convincingly won the men’s wheelchair race in Manchester, just shy of three minutes ahead of Josh Hartley (Job King; Coventry).

Kolek’s time was a PB – 52:50 – while Hartley was close to his best, clocking 55:49, just two seconds ahead of Anton Shepherd.

Ellie Page (Coventry) won the women’s race ahead of Elizabeth McTernan (Cleethorpes); the times 1:19.42 to 1:24.56.

In senior men’s and women’s races, Ben Connor (Derby) and Lily Partridge (Aldershot Farnham & District) won in 1:03.12 and 1:13.44 respectively.

Declan Manning (Kevin Manning; City of Norwich) had a busy first day of the championships, finishing fourth in the men’s F20 hammer throw final, and later qualifying for the F20 discus final with a throw of 32.86 metres.

In the hammer final, his best attempt came in round four, producing a best of 32.65m.

Sam Fernando (Ron Morrison; Fife) was seventh in the T20 10,000 metre final, recording a time of 33:56.77.

British Athletics Cross Challenge Series, Cardiff, Llandaff Fields, 12 October 2019

Marc Scott (coach: Steve Gulley, club: Cambridge & Coleridge) and Charlotte Archer (Chris Jones; Cardiff) were the winners of the senior races in Cardiff as the 2019/20 series kick started in style.
