Weekend Update

Domestically, the build up to the McCain Liverpool Cross Challenge/European Cross Country Trials continued with league races across the country, but the weekend’s performance highlights came from overseas.

IAAF World Cross Meeting, Burgos, Spain, November 11

Jess Coulson (Mick Woods) had her best cross country race to date to finish third in the women’s 7.8km event in 25:42, behind two top Africans, but ahead of leading Europeans Fionnuala Britton (Ire), the European Cross Country Champion, and Sara Moreira (Portugal).

Hannah Walker (Bud Baldaro) was seventh in 26:03.

The under-20 women’s 3.90km event was won by Jenny Walsh (Deborah Rowlands) in 13:15 with Becky Straw (Baldaro) in second in 13:30.

The leading British senior man in the men’s 9.8km race was Jonathan Taylor (Gordon Surtees) who was 12th in 29:07.

English Schools’ champion Jonathan Davies (Rob McKim) was fourth in the junior men’s race over 5.87km.

Richmond Half-marathon, USA, November 10

Olympic marathoner Claire Hallissey (Self-coached) finished second in a time of 75:14.

NCAA Division 1  Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships, Madison Ct, USA, November 9

Mitch Goose (Tim/Pauline Ash) continued his good form to win the 10km race in a time of 30:04.5. Dan Clorley (Tony Simmons) was fourth in 30:27.0

NCAA DI Midwest Regional Cross Country Championships  Springfield, USA, November 9

Chris O’Hare (Steve Gulley) used his 3:37.95 1500m speed to win a tight finish in the 10km race in 30:25.87. Tom Farrell (Dave Smith) was a close fourth in 30:29.06 and Andrew Heyes (Keith Whitelam) was eighth in 30:30.23.
