Weekend Update

While the majority of attention was on the GB & NI team’s excellent performance at the European Indoor Championships, there were plenty of other top class performances elsewhere.

 

England Athletics U15 / U17 Combined Events Championships, Sheffield, March 3

Max Price (coach: Norma Harris) won the Under 15 boys pentathlon in a PB and McCain Power of Ten ranking topping 3054 points.

Anna Rowe (Robert Roberts) did likewise with her score of 3122 to win the under-15 girls event.

Anthony Hogg (Alicia Berry) went top of the under-17 men’s Heptathlon rankings with his 4564 points victory.

Kierra Barker (Andy Sleap), who already tops the under 17 girls pentathlon rankings, just missed her best with her 3346 victory,

ECAC & IC4A Indoor Championships, Boston, USA, March 3

Daniel Clorley (Tony Simmons) won in a PB 3000m of 8:02.15.

Bath Half-Marathon, March 3

IAAF World Championships marathon representative Susan Partridge (John Montgomery) finished a very close second in a PB 70:32 to go of the McCain Power of Ten half-marathon rankings Alyson Dixon (self-coached), who also ran for Britain in Daegu in 2011, took a minute off her personal best to finish third in 71:21 and go second in the rankings Close behind her, Martin Rees tooknearly  three minutes off the world M60 record with his 71:31 clocking.

In the men’s event, Phil Wicks and John Gilbert (Ken Pike) finished fourth and fifth in respective 65:04 and 65:43, to go third and fourth in the men’s rankings.

Adidas Silverstone Half-Marathon, March 3

Olympic marathoner Scott Overall (Robert Chapman) won by seven minutes in 65:41.

London Paralympic four-time gold medallist Dave Weir (Jenny Archer) won the wheelchair category by five minutes in 47:32.

British Athletics Hammer Circle Winter Throws Trials Loughborough, March 2

Olympic finalist Sophie Hitchon (Tore Gustafsson) had her first competition of the year and went top of the McCain Power of Ten hammer rankings with 70.34m.

Mark Dry (Tore Gus/tafsson) went top of the men’s rankings with a 72.45m victory over Olympic finalist Alex Smith (Shane Peacock) who went second in the rankings with 70.94m.

Taylor Campbell (Paul Dickenson) threw 70.56m, to exceed the World under-18 standard.

Michael Painter (John Painter) went top of the under 20 hammer rankings with his 69.01m victory.

In the junior men’s discus there was a win for Nick Percy, just missing the European Hunior Championships qualifying standard of 57.00m as he threw 56.84m.

Joe Dunderdale (David Parker) won the men’s javelin with 72.47m ahead of under-20 Aidan Reynolds’ (Davod Parker) 68.77m.

Molly Barnet Open Walk Road Walks, University of Warwick, Coventry, March 3

Tom Bosworth (Andi Drake) moved to 3rd on the UK all time list for the 10km road walk and top of the Power of 10 rankings for 2013, whilst training partner Jamie Higgins (Andi Drake) was well inside the qualifying standard for the European Junior Championships.

Jamie Higgins (Andi Drake) clocked the 7th fastest ever time by a British junior with 42:42, well inside the qualifying time of 43:25.00 for the European Junior Championships.

In the Women’s 5km, Bethan Davies (Andi Drake) went to the top of the Power of 10 rankings over 5km with a new personal best of 24.42.
