Weekend Update

Most eyes were on the Virgin London Marathon over the weekend, but there was plenty of track action too.

 

ACC Outdoor Championships, Raleigh, April 20

Zak Seddon who is primarily a steeplechaser showed good speed running a 1500m PB of 3:45.59 to put him inside the British Athletics qualifying standard of 3:46.00 for the European Junior Championships this summer.

His time puts him third in the McCain Power of Ten rankings.

Mount Sac Relays, Walnut, USA, April 20

Mark Dry (Tore Gustafsson) went top of the UK men’s  hammer rankings with a throw of 74.46m, which is just short of his PB and placed him third.

Nick Miller (John Baumann) achieved his first ever 70m throw to finish fifth and his 70.20m puts him fourth in the rankings. Olympic finalist Sophie Hitchon (Gustafsson) finished third with a throw of 69.54m, which is just short of her ranking topping 70.34m.

In the women’s 800m, Marilyn Okoro (self-coached)  finished third in a time of 2:01.95 to go second in the UK rankings and finish ahead of Olympian Lynsey Sharp (Terrence Mahon) , who was sixth in 2:02.63 which puts her third in the rankings.

Tom Jones Invitational, Gainsville, April 20

Danny Talbot (Daniel Cossins) won the 200m in 20.67/0.4 to go top of the 200m rankings. His time is inside UKA’s European under-23 standard of 20.80.

Anyika Onoura (Rana Reider) went top of the women’s 200m rankings with her third place in 22.98/0.3 and the time is inside the UKA A standard of 23.05 for Moscow.

European Indoor 400m champion Perri Shakes-Drayton (Chris Zah) showed good speed to smash her 200m PB with 23.27 which puts her third in the rankings.

Tiffany Porter (Reider) ran a ranking topping 12.87 but the wind reading was just over the limits at 2.1mps. Her heat time of 12.97/1.5 was legal but narrowly missed the qualifying standard for the IAAF World Championships.

Shara Proctor (Reider) won the long jump with 6.63m/0.6 which is the best outdoor mark by a British jumper this year.
