Weekend Update

Aside from the British Athletics Cross Challenge Series opener in Bristol on Sunday, there were some top road performances both at home and abroad.

BUPA Great South Run, Portsmouth, October 27

In very windy conditions, Andy Vernon (Nic Bideau) finished fourth in a high quality field in a time of 49:21, which puts him equal top of the Power of 10 10 mile rankings. There were further strong runs from Chris Thompson (Mark Rowland) and Ryan McLeod (John Nuttall) who were sixth and seventh respectively.

Making her return after a lengthy spell out with injury, Charlotte Purdue (Mick Woods) was delighted to be the leading Briton in the women’s race, finishing third in 56:57.

Frankfurt Marathon, October 27

Nick Torry lowered his personal best by over four minutes to go top of the Power of Ten marathon rankings. Torry clocked 2:15:08 to finish 18th in a stellar international field, a performance which is the icing on the cake of a great few months, which has also seen the V35 run personal bests at 10k and half marathon.

Dave Webb (Bud Baldaro) was just one place further back in 19th, his 2:15:21 clocking putting him second in the rankings

In the women’s race, veteran Hayley Haining was the leading British woman in 14th place, running 2:36:40, a performance good enough to put her fifth in the women’s rankings.
