English CCA Relay Championships, Mansfield, November 2

Aldershot Farnham and District won an unprecedented double, taking both the senior men’s and women’s races in imperious fashion, the first time this feat has been achieved on the same day in the event’s history. As always, the Mansfield event was extremely well attended, however no one could stop Aldershot taking a 1-2 in the junior women’s race, with Tonbridge AC taking the men’s equivalent.

The first leg was slightly modified this year, with the start line being moved forward some 80 metres, meaning no official fastest legs were awarded. However in the men’s race, there was no doubt about Andy Vernon’s (coach: Nic Bideau) performance on leg two, where he was quicker than anyone else on the day by 22 seconds. In the senior women’s race, Lily Partridge (Mick Woods) was the quickest on leg one, edging out Stevie Stockton (George Gandy) by less than a second. Of the other legs, Steph Twell (Woods) was quickest, just sneaking inside 10 minutes with a 9.58 clocking.
