Villeurbanne, France, December 14

In her first competition since the European Team Championships in June, Holly Bleasdale (Scott Simpson) made a successful return from injury with an impressive 4.61m victory in France.

Luke Cutts (Trevor Fox) won the men’s vault with a new personal best of 5.71m, equalling the top British vault of 2013 by Steve Lewis.

Telford 10km, December 15

Louise Damen (self-coached) broke 33 minutes for the first time to go fourth in the Power of Ten rankings for 2013 with a time of 32:47.

The men’s race was won by Jonny Mellor (Steve Vernon)  in 29:39 with a further six athletes dipping inside the 30 minute barrier.

Barcelona 24 hours, December 14/15

Jen Salter smashed her personal best distance to win the women’s race with a distance of 217.753km, to go sixth on the UK all time list and top of the 2013 rankings. Karen Hathaway finished second with a distance just in excess of 210 km, meaning both athlete achieved the qualifying standard for the 2014 IAU World 24 Hour Championships.

Hoosier Open, Bloomington, USA, December 13

Adam Bitchell (James Thie) broke the Welsh Indoor 5000m record on his indoor debut over the distance with a 13.44.70 clocking, a new outright personal best.

British Athletics Winter Race Walk Challenge, UWIC, Cardiff, December 15

In the first leg of the British Athletics Winter Race Walk Challenge Bethan Davies (coach: Andi Drake) was an agonising 0.57 seconds outside the British Indoor Record over 3,000 metres when setting a new Welsh 3000m indoor race walk record at the Cardiff Metropolitan University and Welsh Athletics Christmas Classic Grand Prix. Her time of 13.09.21 was just short of Niobe Menendez best of 13.08.64 set on the same track in 2002.

Heather Lewis (coach: Martin Bell) set a new British Under 23 record in 13.28.72 to move to fourth on the Senior all time list. Ellie Dooley (coach: Andi Drake) set a new personal best of 13.47.27 to move to third on the Under 20 All time List and 10th on the Senior All Time list. The race was won by Under 20 Cameron Corbishley in a new personal best of 12.54.76. In the Under 15 and Under 13 combined 1,000 metre walk. Megan Stratton-Thomas took victory in 5:02.24.

The next round of the British Athletics Winter Race Walk Challenge is the England Athletics Championships, which will take place alongside the England Athletics Senior & Under 20 Combined Events Championships, at the EIS Sheffield, on the 5th January.
