Scottish National Open, Emirates Arena, Glasgow, January 18

Jamie Bowie (coach: Piotr Haczek) ramped up his preparations for the Sainsbury’s Glasgow International Match by running the second fastest indoor 400m time ever by a Scottish athlete, winning in 47.09.

Perche Elite Tour, Orleans, France, January 18

Gregor Maclean (Alan Richardson) set a new Scottish pole vault record of 5.40m to finish fourth in France. Also clearing the same height was Andrew Sutcliffe (Richardson) therefore placing them equal third in the Power of Ten indoor rankings.

Seattle, USA, January 18

Emma Nuttall (Laurier Primeau) equalled the Scottish indoor high jump record of 1.86m to go top of the 2014 Power of Ten rankings.

College Station Texas, USA, January 18

Teenager George Caddick (Clyde Hart) set a personal best of 46.73 to finish second and go top of the Power of Ten 400m rankings.

Northern Athletics Championships, Sheffield, January 18/19    
    
European U23 heptathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson (Mike Holmes) showed good early season form over the weekend in Sheffield. She started with a personal best of 8.40 in the 60m hurdles, which places her third in the UK rankings. She then went on to the long jump, the event where she is reigning world junior champion, jumping 6.34m to go top of the rankings. There was a further personal best in the 60m where she clocked 7.50 before rounding out her weekend with 12.49m in the shot put.

South of England Championships, Lee Valley, January 18/19

Sean Safo-Antwi (Jonas Tawiah-Dodoo) just missed Sochi bound Craig Pickering’s CBP taking 60m victory in 6.59 to go top of the Power of 10 rankings. Just three hundredths behind him was 2013 European Junior 100m champion Chijindu Ujah (Tawiah-Dodoo) who clocked a personal best 6.61 to win his semi-final earlier in the day, whilst bronze medallist Danny Talbot (Dan Cossins) also set a personal best of 6.69 in his semi-final. In the U20 men’s equivalent, World Youth 100m champion Ojie Edoburun (Tawiah-Dodoo) took victory in an impressive 6.73, a new personal best.

European Junior 100m silver medallist Sophie Papps (Cossins) took the women’s 60m title in 7.31, however she went even quicker in her heat, clocking a new personal best of 7.27 to go top of the Power of 10 rankings. Her Rieti teammate Dina Asher-Smith (John Blackie) took victory in the under 20 women’s race, in 7.34, but she too went quicker earlier in the day with a 7.32 clocking.

Cross Internacional de Italica, Seville, Spain, January 19

Running for England, Lily Partridge (Mick Woods) arguably had the run of her young career so far, finishing fifth in a strong international field, with Jonathan Taylor (Gordon Surtess) leading the men home in 12^th. There was domination by the England teams in the junior races though as both the men and women took a clean sweep of the top four places. Matthew Shirling (Adrian Webb) led the junior men home, with Georgia Malir (Andrew Henderson) winning the junior women’s race.

Chevron Houston Half Marathon, Houston, USA, January 19

Rory Fraser (Art Acevedo) clocked an impressive 62:48 to take victory on his half marathon debut, a time which takes him straight to the top of the Power of 10 rankings.
