Rouen, France, January 25

Luke Cutts (coach: Trevor Fox) continued his great start to 2014 when he broke the British record when he finished second to Olympic champion and Renaud Lavillenie with a clearance of 5.83m to improve Steve Lewis’s mark by a centimetre. The IAAF world qualifying standard is 5.75m and this puts him a clear second to the Frenchman in the world rankings. Cutts was leading when he cleared 5.83m on the first attempt as Lavillenie needed two attempts but the cleared 5.93m and then a French record 6.04m

Osaka Marathon, Japan, January 26

Louise Damen (self-coached) finished ninth in 2:32:21, which puts her top at this early stage of the Power of Ten rankings ands is inside the British Athletics European Championships qualifying time of 2:33:00

Boston, January 24

Matt Gillespie (Amanda Gillespie) ran a 3000m PB to finish second in 7:52.24 and Richard Peters took 18 seconds off his best to finish third with a time of 7:52.51. Both just missed the world qualifying standard of 7:52.00.

New York, January 24/25

Lee Emanuel (Ronnie Warhurst) won the mile in an outright PB of 3:54.31 to go third on the UK all-time indoor list. He was also timed at 1500m at 3:38.99. Both times put him top of the 2014 rankings and are also well inside the world qualifyting marks of 3:41.00 and 3:58.00

Combined Events International, Sheffield, January 25/26

John Lane (Toni Minichiello) won the heptathlon with a UK best score of 5982 points from team-mate Richard Reeks (Ian Grant) on 5805. Ben Gregory (Julie Hollman) was fourth with 5764.

Liam Ramsay (Mike Corderi) won the under-23 event with 5700 points and David Hall (Grant) finished second in the under-20 event.

Grace Clements (Grant) finished fourth in the women’s Pentathlon with 4155 points, while Georgina Westwood (Eldon Lake) was the third under-20 competitor in the under-23 pentathlon.

Morgan Lake (Lake) had to withdraw with injury from the high jump.

Cross Country Cinque Mulini  San Vittore Olona, Italy, January 26

European silver medallist Gemma Steel (John Nuttall) finished a fine second to Kenyan Faith Kipyegon in this famous cross-country event.
