David Hemery Valentine Invitational, Boston, February 8

Three Britons broke four minutes in the mile with Richard Peters winning in 3:57.27, narrowly ahead of Chris Gowell (coach: Steve Sisson) who ran a PB of 3:57.29. Both times are superior to the World Indoor qualifying standard of 3:58.00.

Matt Gillespie (Amanda Gillespie) ran a PB 3:58.48 in fourth; their times put them second, third and fourth in the Power of Ten rankings.

Ghent, February 9

European and Commonwealth 110m hurdles champion Andy Turner (Lloyd Cowan) ran his fastest 60m hurdles for three years when he finished third in 7.73, though the time only puts him fourth in the UK rankings.

Vaxjo, Sweden, February 9

16 year old Morgan Lake (Eldon Lake) confirmed her immense talent as she achieved a World Indoor pentathlon youth record of 4284 points while guesting in Sweden’s U18 championships. The previous record was 4261 held by former Olympic and world champion Carolina Kluft. Her series consisted of a 8.97 60m hurdles, 1.85m high jump, 13.38 shot, 5.87m the long jump and 2:24.48 for the 800m. It was also of course a British record and the 800m and shot were outright PBs, indoors and out.
