Whilst most of the weekend’s focus was on our six medal haul at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot, or the British Athletics Cross Challenge Final in Birmingham, there was still plenty more action across the country.

Welsh Athletics International, Cardiff, March 8/9

David Omoregie (coach: Mike Guest) continued his fine indoor form to smash his British under-20 record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.50 seconds. At the time it was thought to be a World Junior record but later word came through that a French athlete had run two hundredth’s quicker just thirty minutes before.

 CIS Track & Field Championships, Edmonton, Canada, March 8

Emma Nuttall (Laurier Primeau) set a personal best with a second time clearance at 1.88m to win the Canadian equivalent of the BUCS Indoor Championships. Her jump also eclipsed the Scottish Indoor record set by Jayne Nisbet (Graham Ravenscroft) just last month at the Sainsbury’s British Athletics Indoor Championships and puts her joint second on the Power of Ten rankings.

England Athletics U15 / U17 Combined Events Championships, Sheffield, March 8/9

ESAA Combined Events bronze medallist Harry Sutherland (Ian Grant) won the under-17 heptathlon title by almost 100 points with a score of 4714 which puts him fourth on the indoor all-time lists.

Robert Runciman (Philip Sergeant) went sixth on the under-15 all time lists with his score of 2951 which won by around 400 points.

The under-17 girls title was a much closer affair and won by another ESAA bronze medallist Annabelle Pask (Paul Harrison) by just 14 points.

Scottish champion Holly McArthur (Iain McEwan) won the under-15 title by a healthy margin of 140 points.

Her PB score of 3361 moves her to fourth all time, 10 points of World indoor long jump silver medallist Katarina Johnosn-Thompson (Mike Holmes).

All the winning athletes went top of the Power of Ten rankings in 2014 in their events.

Vault Manchester, Sportcity, March 8

Sixteen year-old Adam Hague (Trevor Fox) added 13 centimetres to his pole vault PB with a sensational 5.28m vault to go third on the all-time under-20 lists and better the World Junior standard of 5.20m. He still has two further years in the under-20 age group.

British Masters Indoor Championships, Lee Valley, March 8/9

The 1970 Commonwealth Games Discus champion Rosemary Chrimes set three world records in the W80 age group.

She threw 9.58m in the shot, jumped 2.58m in the long jump and 1.09m in the high jump.

Clare Elms took six seconds off her W50 world indoor record with 4:40.07, to also better the world outdoor record and Caroline Powell (Robert Ellchuck) set a new W60 400m world record of 68.21.

Surrey Half Marathon, Guildford, March 9

Phil Wicks finished third behind strong Kenyan opposition, his 64:43 time putting him second on the Power of Ten rankings.

Trafford 10km, Partington March 9

Olympic 5000m runner Nick McCormick (Lindsay Dunn) went top of the Power of Ten 10km rankings with his 28:56 victory. That time also took one second off his nine-year-old PB.

44 year-old Andrew Ward went fourth in the UK rankings with his 29:38 PB, which also puts him third on the Masters all time lists.

Another Vet 40, Helen Clitheroe (Terrence Mahon), won the women’s race in 32:49 to go top of the Power of Ten rankings and second in the all time lists for an over 40.
