Guldensporenmeeting, Kortrijk, Belgium, 11 July

Former European indoor 800m champion Jenny Meadows (coach: Trevor Painter) bounced back from her seventh-placed finish in the Sainsbury’s British Championships with an impressive victory and a fast time in Belgium on Saturday night. The 34-year-old Wigan Harrier, who topped the world indoor rankings this year, won in 2:00.56, getting the better of World Youth 1500m bronze medallist Alexa Efraimson of the US (2:01.33) and Uganda’s Commonwealth bronze medallist Winnie Nanyondo (2:01.97.

It was just 0.01 outside Meadows’ fastest outdoor time of 2015, which she clocked in the New York Diamond League meeting last month. She was not the only Briton in the race, Edinburgh AC’s Emily Dudgeon (Stuart Hogg) finishing ninth in 2:02.87.

There was also an impressive run in the men’s 1500m for Ross Murray (Craig Winrow). Sixth in the British Championships, the Gateshead Harrier picked up the threads of his hitherto encouraging run of form with a victory in 3:38.51, his third sub 3:40 clocking of the summer. Eric Jenkins of the US finished runner up in 3: 38.90, with British Champs silver medallist and European outdoor and indoor bronze medallist Chris O’Hare (Terrence Mahon) third in 3:39.18.

Seb Rodger (John Hillier) clocked 51.01 for second place in the 400m hurdles – behind Quincy Downing of the US, who prevailed in 50.68.

IAAF World Challenge Meeting, Madrid, Spain, 11 July

The weekend after losing his British 800m title to the emerging young Kyle Langford (George Harrison), Michael Rimmer (Jon Bigg) produced his fastest time for two years to bag a World Championship qualifying time in the Spanish capital on Saturday night. The 29-year-old Liverpool Pembroke Sefton athlete finished sixth in 1:45.75, 0.25 inside the UK Athletics A standard for Beijing. It was also the first sub 1:47 clocking of 2015 by a British two-lap runner. Guy Learmonth (Rob Denmark) won the B race in 1:47.60, an outdoor season’s best, with Mukhtar Mohammed 12^th in 1:54.10.

There was a strong British presence in the women’s 800m and Lynsey Sharp (Rana Reider) maintained her consistent form with a third Beijing (sub 2:01) qualifying time of the summer. Six days after her assured victory in the Sainsbury’s British Championships, the 2014 Commonwealth and European silver medallist finished third behind Canada’s Melissa Bishop (2:00.13) and world indoor champion Chanelle Price of the US (2:00.26) in 2:00.55. The in-form Laura Muir (Andy Young) had to settle for sixth place in 2:01.05.

Niall Flannery (Nick Dakin) won the 400m hurdles B race in 49.23, a world A qualifying standard, while Andrew Steele (Chris Zah) was fourth in the 400m B race, clocking 46.08.

IWAS World Junior Games, Stadskanaal, Holland 6-7 July

It was another successful session for the GB & NI contingent on the second day of action in Holland. It was a British one-two in the F37/38 long jump with teenage sensation Molly Kingsbury (Roger Graham) winning gold with a distance of 3.76m, 14cm ahead of her teammate Amy Carr (Rick Betts), who finished in the silver medal position.

In the 200m, both Shaun Burrows (Joseph McDonnell) and James Arnott (Ryan Freckleton) won gold in the T38 and T46 classes respectively. Burrow’s clocked 23.76 to claim top spot on the podium, while Arnott prevailed in a time of 23.66.

Weir Archer Academy’s Dillon Labrooy (Jenny Archer) was also another athlete in fine form winning the T54 U23 1500m in a time of 3:54.79, while Mitchell Dutton (Caroline Price) claimed gold in the mixed javelin class by 80 points with a best throw of 40.11m.  

Nathan Maguire (Steven Hoskins) also came back to the UK with another medal, this time with bronze in the mixed class 800m with the youngster narrowly missing out on a silver medal by just over a tenth of a second.

BWAA Grand Prix, 11-12 July

Six-time Paralympic champion David Weir (Jenny Archer) continued his season with victory in the T54 1500m posting a time of 3:10.80, while Shelly Woods (Archer) was the winner in the female equivalent.

Weir and Woods also finished in top spot in the T54 400m clocking 48.86 and 64.15 respectively.

Ben Rowlings’ (Job King) impressive form continued winning the T34 100m, 200m and 400m, while Mo Jomni was a winner in both the T33/53 100m and 400m.

GB & NI stalwart Stephen Miller (Ros Miller) produced his second best competition throw of the season with a distance of 31.25m in the F31/32/51 club throw.

Samantha Bowen (Anthony Hughes) is edging towards her lifetime best with 26.24m in the F41-46 discus, while training partner Kyron Duke (Hughes) went out to 10.35m in the F41-46 shot put.

GB & NI teammates Joshua Bain (Paul Welch) and Jonathan Adams (Jim Edwards) contested the F35-38 shot put with Bain with a throw of 11.24m to Adams’ 10.79m.

Welsh League, Newport, 11 July

Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Rhys Jones (Keith Antoine) battled windy conditions in the 100m to run a 12.29 into a strong headwind of -3.9.

British Athletics League Premiership Division, Scotstoun, 11 July

Newly crowned British 400m champion Rabah Yousif (Carol Williams) won the one-lap race in 46.56. Other British Championship medallists in action included 1500m third-placer Dale Clutterbuck (self-coached). He won the 800m in 1:52.21, ahead of two-time Olympic veteran Anthony Whiteman (coach unknown), who was second in 1:52.51.

Scots David Smith (Fuzz Ahmed) and Allan Smith (Bryan Roy) both cleared 2.24m in winning the A and B string high jump for Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers.

English Schools’ Championships, Gateshead, 10- 11 July

Hallamshire Harrier Tilly Simpson (Steven Marshall) produced the stand out track performance of the championships, winning the intermediate girls’ 800m in 2:06.22, an improvement of 0.25 on the UK under 15 best set last year by Katy-Ann McDonald (Phillip Kissi). There was also a championship best performance in the inter girls’ pole vault, 15-year-old Cornwall’s Molly Caudery (Stuart Caudery) clearing 3.93m to go to eleventh place in the 2015 UK senior rankings. Livvy Connor (Richard Pilling) and Abigail Roberts (Trevor Fox) both set a championship record of 3.85m in the senior girls’ pole vault, the former winning on countback. Katie Head (Paul Head) won the inter girls’ hammer with 60.05m, a championship record mark with the 3kg implement.
