Newham Open & Parallel Success, 26 September
Richard Whitehead (Keith Antoine) and Maria Lyle (Tabo Huntley) were in record breaking form as the duo continued their preparations for next month’s IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha.
Whitehead set an unofficial world record of 24.26 in the T42 200m, taking a considerable chunk off his previous best of 24.38. Double European gold medallist Maria Lyle followed Whitehead in setting new personal bests of 13.90 and 29.24 in the T35 100m and 200m, the first of which takes the 15 year old to number one in the world.
14 year old prodigy Kare Adenegan (Job King) underlined her star potential winning the T34 400m in 62.68 and in doing so ending Hannah Cockroft’s (Jenni Banks) unbeaten run in the senior ranks. Cockroft finished in 63.22 behind the teenager, but bounced back to take victory ahead of Adenegan in the 100m and 800m.
Sophie Kamlish (Rob Ellchuk) showed that she is peaking just at the right time, as the 19 year old smashed her personal best and the British record in the T44 100m. Kamlish clocked 13.44 and will head to Doha ranked third in the world.
Laura Sugar (Femi Akinsanya) was narrowly outside her personal bests in the T44 100m and 200m (13.59 and 28.45), while Shaun Burrows (Joseph McDonnell) is coming into form at the right time with a new personal best of 54.43 in the T38 400m.
There was also a Scottish record for Sammi Kinghorn (Ian Mirfin) in the T53 100m, while Kadeena Cox (Brian Scobie) went straight to the top of the world rankings posting 13.78 in the T37 100m.
Abbie Hunnisett (Mark Hunnisett/Camilla Thrush) added 10cm to her lifetime best in the F32 club throw with a distance of 21.11m, while Kylie Grimes’ (Phil Peat/Jenni Banks) progression in the event continued with a throw of 14.26m in the F51 class.
Sabrina Fortune (Ian Robinson), who will make her international debut in Doha, was just four centimetres off her personal best set last month recording a best attempt of 11.99 in the F20 shot put.
Berlin Marathon, 27 September
David Weir (Jenny Archer) returned to winning ways as the six-time Paralympic champion broke his personal best at the Berlin Marathon. The 36 year old crossed the line victorious in 1:27.36 beating his previous best time of 1:28.17 set in Switzerland two years ago.
Sonia Samuels (self-coached) and Alyson Dixon (self-coached) also set new lifetime bests in the women’s marathon finishing ninth and 11th respectively. Samuels finish in 2:28.04 with Dixon just two places behind in 2:29.30, both Rio qualifying times.
Also securing a Rio qualifying time in the men’s race was Scott Overall, who came through in 10th place in 2:11.24 behind 2008 Olympic 5000m silver medallist Eliud Kipchoge (2:04.00).

Great Yorkshire Run 10k, Sheffield, 27 September
British 10,000m champion Jonny Mellor (Steve Vernon) was the overall winner in Sheffield, as the Liverpool Harrier returned to the scene where he triumphed in 2012. Mellor won in a time of 29.12, while Lauren Howarth was the leading female, crossing in 33.49.
