UK Women’s League Premier Division – Saturday 6 August

Birchfield Harriers won the women’s league title after a solid end to the domestic track and field season in Hendon.

After setting a big PB a couple of weeks earlier in the 800m, European Championships 1500m finalist Sarah McDonald (coach: Bud Baldaro) returned for the two-lap event, winning in 2:04.01. A win for Birchfield’s 4x100m relay ‘A’ team in 45.84 further consolidated their win, the quartet of Mica Moore (Lawrence Moore), Gina Akpe-Moses (Andy Paul), Heather Paton and Katie Stainton (Kelly Sotherton) bringing home the winning result. Bethan Partridge (Aston Moore) was also victorious for the Birchfield team, winning the high jump with a season’s best of 1.86m.

Other notable results included a sprint double for Swansea’s Hannah Brier (Neal Merry), winning the 100m in 11.45 (-2.1) and the 200m in 23.61 (-3.3). There was also a personal best for Thames Valley’s Zoey Clarke (Eddie McKenna) in the 400m, posting a best of 52.58.

There was also a 58.21 clocking for Shaftesbury Barnet’s Philippa Lowe in the 400m hurdles ‘A’ race, narrowly outside her PB set earlier this summer. Enfield and Haringey’s 4x400m team also looked in good form, the squad composed of Lina Nielsen (Frank Adams), Mary Ikehe (Christine Bowmaker), Akesha Smith (Adams) and Laviai Nielsen (Adams) stopping the clock at 3:41.28.
