IAAF Diamond League Meeting, Brussels, Belgium, 9 Sep

There were personal bests for Adam Gemili (coach: Steve Fudge) and Eilish McColgan (Liz McColgan-Nuttall) in the final IAAF Diamond League meeting of the season in Brussels.

Running over his favoured 200m, Gemili took 0.01 off his previous best with a clocking of 19.97 alongside Julian Forte, with the Jamaican narrowly edging him out for the win at the King Baudouin Stadium. Danny Talbot (Benke Blomkvist) posted 20.26 in the race for seventh, a time just a hundredth of a second shy of his lifetime best.

It was a lifetime best obliteration for McColgan over 5000m as she came home in 15:05.00 for 13th, the time seeing her become the ninth fastest Brit of all time over the distance. Steph Twell (Mick Woods) – the fourth fastest British women ever in the discipline – took 17th in 15:14.82, with the race itself was won by Ethiopian Almaz Ayana – an Olympic bronze medallist over the distance – in a meeting record time of 14:18.89.

A fifth place finish wasn’t enough to see Eilidh Doyle (Malcolm Arnold) take the Diamond Race title, with a season’s best of 54.57 from Cassandra Tate seeing the American leapfrog Doyle into first place in the standings to take the title.

4x100m Olympic bronze medallist Desiree Henry (Rana Reider) clocked 11.12 for fourth in the 100m, with the 21-year-old claiming the national record over 150m the following day at the Great North City Games.

David Omoregie (Benke Blomkvist) gave another strong account of himself in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.43 for fifth, whilst in the 800m B race Elliot Giles (Matt Yates) claimed third in 1:46.49.

Robbie Grabarz (Fuzz Caan) closed out his season with a third place finish in the high-jump with a best clearance of 2.32m, with Erik Kynard of the USA taking victory on count-back. Chris Baker (Sharon Heveran) bowed out of the competition at 2.20m following three failures at 2.23m.

It was 16th in the 1500m for British champion Charlie Grice (Jon Bigg) in 3:38.48.

Belgrade Street Meet, Belgrade, Serbia, 11 Sep

Jazmin Sawyers (Alan Lerwill) ended her season with a 6.56m jump to finish second at this street meet put on for Serbian Ivana Spanovic in Belgrade. The Olympic bronze medallist put on quite the show for her thousands of fans, setting a new Serbian record of 7.10m.

Sawyers has enjoyed a fantastic breakthrough season, winning two British titles, picking up a silver medal at the European Championships and placing eighth in the Olympic final.

Jungfrau Mountain Marathon, Interlaken-Ergebnisse, 10 Sep

Robbie Simpson notched up arguably the biggest win of his career to date, taking the Jungfrau Marathon title, one of the biggest and most prestigious annual mountain races in the world. After a second place finish at Sierre-Zinal last month, the Scot ran away from his rivals to win by five minutes in 3.00.11. This performance follows Simpson setting personal bests on the roads this year, with 64.39 and 2.15.38 half-marathon and marathon times respectively.

Golden Fly Series, Schaan, Lichtenstein, 8 Sep

Jazmin Sawyers continued her late season European tour with yet another solid 6.65m effort at this street meet in Lichtenstein, to take victory in the women’s long jump. This follows on from a 6.68m jump in Zagreb two days earlier and a 6.62m effort in Berlin last weekend.

Dan Gardiner (John Crotty) was also in action, finishing third in the men’s event in 7.54m.

Watford Open Graded Meeting, Watford, 7 Sep

Adelle Tracey (Craig Winrow) finished her breakthrough 2016 season on a high as she clocked a personal best, but was agonisingly close to breaking the two minute barrier for the first time with her 2.00.04 effort.

In the fastest men’s 800m race Rory Graham-Watson (Rodger Hughes) produced a late season’s best of 1.48.51 to win by some four seconds.
