Weekend Update

Frankfurt Marathon, Germany, 30 October

Charlotte Purdue (coach: Nic Bideau) clocked an impressive 2:30.04 time on her second outing over the marathon distance, a performance that takes her to the top of the Power of 10 rankings. Having dropped out of the Berlin Marathon last month, the talented youngster took over two and a half minutes off her debut time at the London Marathon in April to finish in fifth place. Her time is also inside the Olympic qualifying standard, which puts her in pole position for London 2017 World Championship selection.

There was also a terrific breakthrough performance from 31 year old Tracy Barlow (Nick Anderson) who took nearly seven minutes off her old personal best with a 2:32.05 time. In the men’s race Kent AC’s James Connor (Kenneth Pike) clocked a season’s best of 2:19.33, just outside his 2.18.26 personal best, to be the first British finisher.

PAC-12 Championships, Arizona, USA, 28 October

Amy-Eloise Neale was one of a number of British athletes who won on conference weekend in the United States of America, taking the prestigious Pac-12 title for the University of Washington. Just 12 seconds but seven places further back came British teammate Bethan Knights (Shayla Houlihan) of UC Berkeley.

Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships, Idaho, USA, 28 October

European U23 10,000m bronze medallist Alice Wright and European U23 5,000m fourth placer Calli Thackery (both Joe Franklin) went one-two to guide defending NCAA champions New Mexico to their ninth straight conference team title.

In the men’s race there was a terrific third place finish for Michael Vennard (Andrew Carter), the former GB junior international crossing the line in 24.01.

SEC Cross Country Championships, Arkansas, USA, 28 October

European U23 5000m champion Alex George (Paul de-Camps) secured a impressive win date as he took the conference title in 23.25 over the 8km course.

West Coast Conference Championships, California, USA, 28 October

Alex Short (Phillip O’Dell) continued where he left off at Pre-Nationals last weekend, taking his conference title in fine style.

MAAC Cross Country Championships, Florida, USA, 29 October

Kieran Clements (Ricardo Santos) was the final British winner of the weekend, as he crossed the line at the same time as six of his Iona teammates, an incredibly dominant team performance. He was joined across the line in 24.38 by Jac Hopkins (Kevin Tobin) and Liam Dee (Santos) in second and fourth respectively.

Kent League, Tonbridge, 29 October

1500m man Jake Wightman (Geoff Wightman) took a 12 second victory, running for the first time for his family club Dartford Harriers.

Jedburgh 10km, 30 October

Sammi Kinghorn (Ian Mirfin) posted a Scottish record on her way to winning the Jedburgh 10km, recording a time of 22:00. After finishing as a finalist at the Paralympic Games in Rio, it was Kinghorn’s first 10km of the season.
